Paintball? Is that for use in a reverse dodgeball mentality?
Trying to get hit by them? We don't need our goalies trying to move out of the way of oncoming projectiles.

"If you can block a paintball you can block a puck."

Apologies, not paintball, lazertag. That has nothing to do with the team obviously and is just another revenue stream for the ISF. (if it happens..)

I like the idea of unveiling buildings gradually like it's a Smash Bros roster.

You can barely tell which franchise is hosting because of the colors. Could easily be the Panthers except for that tiny little Lightning star. Should've made it silver and added a storm cloud next to the palm tree up top.

Haha yeah but you could slap Florida on there instead and nobody would be the wiser, except for the slight piratey feel.

But the Panthers don't have orange or yellow in their colors.

Yeah colors alone look pretty much Panthers-esque. Nothing's really linking to "Lightning" but I guess there were going for the "feel good, have a great time in sunny Tampa" theme.

It does sort of feel like a Panthers ASG logo, but for any team in Florida, what are you going to do? Especially with a team whose color scheme is blue and white.

Those pirates did a good job. Really comes across more authentic when you get actual pirates to act as opposed to getting actors to play pirates.

LOL The snark is strong with this one.

I enjoyed seeing Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla members getting to be part of the logo reveal, plus bringing in the two Lightning Captains. Silly but fun way to show that Gasparilla and the All-Star weekend will happen together. And they even filmed the first part on the deck of the Jose Gasparilla II ship. :D

For those reading who are unfamiliar with the annual Gasparilla Invasion and Parade event you can Google it, but here's the website of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla who work with the City of Tampa, the Coast Guard and the Department of Defense to put on the Gasparilla event each year.

...Stamkos, 27, who, along with defenseman Victor Hedman, 26, are in the early stages of creating their own charitable foundations. The franchise cornerstones have put down roots in Tampa, both getting married over the summer. And with both at the beginning of long-term deals, the time was right.
"The platform we have here with this organization and what Mr. Vinik has done makes it very easy and accessible to start something," Stamkos said. "It's easy to follow in the footsteps of guys like (Vinny Lecavalier) and (Ryan Callahan). It's just about finding the right cause and dedicating yourself to that."
Hedman said he and wife Sanna have done work for the Humane Society but haven't picked their passion yet.
"When I came over here, it was kind of an eye-opener for me to see all those foundations and charities," Hedman said. "It starts from the top with Mr. Vinik and the things he does in the community. He sets the example for the whole organization, and the coaching staff and everyone wants to follow his lead. It's a privilege to play for this organization and be part of that. It's something we really want to do."

Not sure where to put this, but they have an event at Expo Hall today to celebrate the inaugural team.

Pretty cool shot of Expo Hall reconfigured:

Back to the esports thing.
http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2017/10/16/Leagues-and-Governing-Bodies/PUBG.aspx

PUBG explosion shows fickle nature of esports

But PUBG’s rise is a cautionary note, experts said. Esports properties want investors to believe they’re building an industry that will look a lot like traditional sports, with stable franchises, enduring fan connections and high barriers to entry for competitors. But gaming may be more accurately compared to the music industry, where even the most sophisticated industry giants must always be aware that an obscure talent can strike a chord with fans and quickly become relevant.

Vinik (at least of a little while ago) was invested in the parent company of Team Liquid.

To account for the game unpredictability, esports teams are structured as platforms that can dive into new titles with relative ease. In recent weeks Team Liquid, Team SoloMid, Noble and Team Dignitas have acquired PUBG teams, and Rodriguez said OpTic is looking into it. At this early stage, the investment is much more in effort than dollars, said Team Liquid co-CEO Steve Arhancet, matching the risk with the uncertainty facing PUBG.

League seems to be losing players (maybe since MOBAs are boring) and I'm seeing them advertise all over YouTube now.

Strategic Property Partners to demolish a portion of Channelside Bay Plaza on Wednesday

https://www.bizjournals.com/tampaba...-property-partners-to-demolish-a-portion.html

“Our priority is to open the existing structure up to the waterfront, creating view corridors to the channel," a spokeswoman for SPP wrote in an email. "The demolition of the southwest wing is a step in that process. We’re looking forward to construction on the park and creating a new destination.”

The demolition removes a 27,500-square-foot building and replaces it with a park that's nearly 42,400 square feet (close to 1 acre). Hablo Taco, which occupied space in that building, closed at the end of August; Thai Thani closed in July.

RIP In Peace a portion of Channelside Bay Plaza

I didn't intend to mention esports again so soon, but a lot of the points brought up in the latest H3 Podcast are pretty much what I've been feeling about it.

(language warning)

start at 10:00 in for esports talk if the embed didn't work. The first part talks about Weinstein/Saville stuff that may be upsetting for some people.

as for esports, I also find Overwatch hard to follow with all the chaos on screen.
