Gudbransson is not an asset, asshat is the word your looking for. And Benning added to McCann to get that.

Forsling was traded for Clendenning. Tryamkin is in Russia. The great 2014 draft so far has gotten us a third liner, a backup goalie, and half a no 6 d-man. Great stuff.
Your opinion..with a bit bit of trash talk chucked in..regarding EG..

3 or 4 NHL players in a draft is a good draft...When was the last time that happened to the Canucks.

I'll take Pettersson honestly. I think it's really hard to win the Cup without that #1 C. Having Pettersson in place really does change everything.

This managements own incompetence helped them stumble into Pettersson.

By the way Benning should be fired.

A no 6 d-man can be found every year on June 1st. Thats the definition of a replaceable player.

The 2014 was a good draft, but keeping the players would have been better than to trade them for crap.

Interesting..?..I didn't think that McCann was that bad..Obviously there were clues, like the Pedan tweet.
McCann has 18 pts in 46 games, playing in the 3rd/4th line he has been scratched for at max 2 games.. Virtanen has 19 pts in 50 games and is being a healthy scratch today, or maybe not apparently .

The 2014 draft alone yielded 5 players that Benning drafted who in all likelihood will play at least 100 games in the NHL..The 2015 draft yielded a Calder runner up,and a promising bottom 6 player....The 2016 has produced nothing to date, the two best prospects have both been injured, delaying their timelines.....The 2017 draft has produced what looks like a Calder winner (barring injury),franchise player.

What situation Benning inherited and what Chia inherited are not remotely similar.

Missing Pastrnak/Ehlers in one draft then try and spin it into a victory.

Looking at the 2015 draft is like looking at the 2003 draft, pretty much half the teams got a good to great player in that draft.

In terms of sucking for a long period and totally screwing up the rebuild, I fully agree, the Canucks are like the Oilers. Going forward both teams look like middlers that will never contend but arent bad enough to get a top five pick.

The Leafs have drafted Dermott and Leivo on the last 5 years..who else (of any impact) has made their team outside of their 1st round picks?

Shallow assessment to fit your argument. Of course the Marlies Calder Cup had nothing to do with drafting. And having a strong farm organization with a number of high-end AHL players ready for call-up isn't important.

No of course not.

Neither is making sure you don't whiff on top-10 picks, which the Leafs haven't arguably done since Gauthier in 2013.

How many of those players from that amazing 2014 draft are on the Canucks right now? I guess Benning just likes helping out other teams get players?
Your negative toxic masculinity is showing, take a breath and exhale for a second. Sheesh you spew verbal diarrhea every time you type, we get it.. you're unhappy.

If Virtanen and Demko become consistent NHL players, it would have been a successful draft..jurys still out...If Tryamkin comes back and becomes a regular...It would be an amazing draft.

Gudbranson does have value in the league, whether you like him or not..

That's a pretty low bar to set when we had the 6th overall pick.
Virtanen = Torres. That is not a successful pick, and is the most important pick of the draft.

Demko and Tryamkin might be able to salvage this draft, but it's not looking like Virtanen or Gudbranson will be the ones that we celebrate.

There are similarities between the Canucks and Oilers for sure. The one I think about is the defence. Benning is in a similar position Chirelli was...having a couple of good young players but a terrible defence. Chirelli got desperate and made brutal trades for Reinhart and Larsson that set the franchise back.

Will Benning have the patience to avoid similar mistakes? We all know his pro scouting on bringing in veteran defencemen is atrocious. It is a very important time for the future direction of this team.
