How can you ever have “ enough “ scoring ??
If it doesn’t effect other aspects of the game like team speed , defensive reliability, etc , why would a team say “ nah we are good for goal scoring .

He's a great player for sure. But I can offer you a scenario: imagine a team that has a full complement of forwards playing pretty much their best hockey of their careers, at nearly all forward positions (other than.... barf - Jost). Like we don't really have a hole there other than maybe 3C which Coleman is not. Compher will be fine there for now and might step up in the POs. In this case, I would say that hurting the team chemistry, and that sense of "earned their ice" that our guys signed here for and have definitely proven worthy of, would be potentially detrimental to a team that is quite literally the #1 offense in the league already.

I think we say 'nah' because the price is steeeep, and we want to compete for a while. Renting 3rd liners, even damn good ones, with 1sts and trading roster players to do so as well? I think that could definitely hurt us in the long run. Need those ELC babies. In addition, what happens if this is a career year for Coleman? I'm not saying that's true, but he doesn't have a long resume.

Not commenting on the rest of it, but Coleman has been superb for about 3 seasons now. He's just getting attention because he's scoring a little more, but he had 22 goals last season and in 17-18 he had 25 points in a 4th line role. It's possible that this is a career year, but I doubt he falls off a cliff.

If you haven't noticed, much like our fanbase Bednar is a bad evaluator of talent (Wilson, Compher & Donskoi over Nichushkin). Just cause Zadorov plays a 5d role having to carry Cole's sorry ass around and make him not look so bad doesn't mean he isn't a top 4 defensemen. Imagine what a Girard/Cole pairing would be like if you disagree.

I know what you mean.

Problem is, you’re wanting to get a similar good fit but at a fraction of the price.

And what I fear, is that you start ending up in the Brassard for a 3rd type deals where you’re not here not there.

I’m not a big fan of half measures.

The Avs have a very clear Achilles heel right now in their special teams. Both the PK and PP are struggling. But the PK for me is far more worrisome.

I really don’t know what other PK players there are, that A) fit the teams identity at 5 on 5 (speed)
B) are available, C) are cheaper than Coleman, and D) are not a detriment at 5v5

Last thing I want is getting a PK specialist who’s terrible for the remainder of the game.

Yeah, I'm definitely not advocating a Brassard for a 3rd type of deal, but there has to be some middle ground between that and the most expensive short term solution on the market today.

Hoping as well.

I just can’t pinpoint any of them.

That's a significant Monday morning hot take if you think Nuke showed enough before Thanksgiving that any reasonable NHL coach would have put him above more proven producers in Wilson, Compher or especially Donskoi at the time.

Especially during that time window of 9 games Wilson managed to suit up for
