Reasonably certain I'm the only mother on this board ... so I hope you all at least called yours, be it via the phone or in your heart's remembrance.
On another note, finally started watching Westworld. Totally in my wheelhouse ... sci-fi westerns. Yes, please.

Happy mother's day, Degen. But that dog still freaks me the hell out.

From talking to my family at our mother's day cookout, I'm starting to question my plan of getting a dog and not another cat. All of their dogs are having some sorts of serious issues, and the only problem with my cat is that she has an ear infection. Getting a male golden retriever and naming it Simba sounds pretty awesome, but I feel like getting another yellow tabby cat would be a hell of a lot easier.

Went Go-Karting earlier. I came last as I haven't driven in 5 years and everyone else has and been Go-Karting before. I got better and didn't crash. I'll take that.

My back hurts now though

Cats and dogs, got to make sure you get the right ones. I have had both and they just ignored each other

My friend got banned from a go karting centre. A guy held out a sign for final lap and my friend ran into him breaking his leg

Had to work this morning as no one wanted to due to it being Mother's Day. Finished now so a quick change of clothing and I am going out on my bike. Too glorious to be indoors.

Since the weather turned I only ride my bike for in town errands. No driving vehicles. So I'm on on it everyday and it's glorious to be out there not in a vehicle.
Only problem is I have to get a new mountain bike as I destroy them basically each year.
My gear changing thingy on the rear tire is bent and doesn't shift out of low/med/high so I virtually have 4 speeds left out of the 18. Some reason 1 and 6 don't work. Rear brake is so worn down I have to use my foot and the front brake is sketchy.

I need to fiddle around with my brakes too. Not quite 100% working but safe enough. Hopefully I will soon be able to go to a few clients on my bike, save petrol money as it's rather ridiculous right now.

Just set a new biking record for myself tonight, 16.4 miles throughout Highland Park, East Liberty, Friendship, Bloomfield, Squirrel Hill, Oakland and Shadyside. Obviously, I'm going to ruin all of that by eating ice cream and drinking beer tonight
I went to A&W on my return leg today much to the disgust of @Scandale du Jour I was able to avoid Dairy Queen though

I preempted mothers day on Friday. Our favorite wing place where I grew up (and my parents still live) closed this weekend, so we had one last family wing night

Dogs are great, but they are about 100x more of a responsibility than cats. Honestly, as much as I love them, I wouldn't recommend one right as you're starting your real adult life unless you really really know you want it.

When I left for college, long ago, my folks and little brother got a golden retriever. idk if they were waiting for me to leave because i'm not the biggest animal person, or just wanted some replacement company, but my mother pushed hard to name the pup Simba. My lasting legacy was to tell them, you guys can get the dog but the dog will be named Rex. Over the last 15 years Rex and I have developed our own rapport -- one based on respect and distance. lol.

I can barely take care of myself, let alone take care of another creature.

I'd probably go through dogs like children go through goldfishes.

I've got 2 and I love them to death. I take care of them just fine, but it's probably about an hour a day for walks etc, plus the cost, plus having to factor them in to any and all decisions to leave my house for any length of time.

I go kart like a granny. I really need to work on learning how to drive if I'm gonna end up living in the States.

Also - based on one episode, I thought This Is Us was fun competent emotional porn. I also really like Rick and Morty but appear to have been shielded from the worst excesses of the fanbase.

I have a humane mousetrap that does a great job catching mice without incident so that I can take them to the park and release them. Yesterday morning I noticed one in the trap, but it was raining so I waited to take it to the park. When I checked again less than an hour later, it HAD A LITTER OF BABIES IN THE TRAP. I couldn't let them go since they didn't have a nest to go to, so I bought an aquarium, bedding, food and a water bottle so they can mature for 4-6 weeks before I release them. I opened the trap and put it in the aquarium, but the mother mouse just pulled bedding into the trap and has setup shop in there. 5 pups! Happy Mother's Day.

Here's what I'm thinking. On a scale for responsibility, having a dog is like having a kid, and having a cat is like having a plant.

I'll for sure get a dog eventually, but that will probably be at the same time I leave my first job to move elsewhere. I don't think people should be adopting dogs when they're working full time, getting a new dog is basically a job in itself.
