Y’all are incorrect. While yes a year of his elc gets burned, he does not become expansion eligible unless he plays 10 games or more. He burns a year off the elc regardless of playing or not as he signed for this season and is now eligible to play. I would assume he prob negotiated that just like Quinn Hughes did. Quinn hughes is not eligible for the expansion draft after playing 5 games. Had he not played any games a year of his elc would have been burned as he negotiated that. Same with Jake kielly. A year of his elc is has been burned even though he has yet to play a professional game. He signed for the 2018-19 season and thus was ineligible for the ahl given he signed past the roster cut off date. He was however eligible to play for the Canucks but they chose not to play him. Still burned a year off his contract

Play off rules are different from regular season rules when it comes to pro years and burning a year off an ELC

Makar's too old - you're wrong.

To everyone solely concerned about the XD for the Avs, there is the upside that Makar likely signs for cheaper 2 years (plus however many playoff games) after his ELC than he would after 3 years.

If Girard is injured, Sakic's hands are tied. He can't replace Girard with Barbeiro/Graves while Makar is available. The optics of it would be terrible and it wouldn't go over well in the locker room.

If Girard is ok, at least Sakic has an option since the team has played well for a month with the six defenders they have been using.

Hopefully Girard is okay. Left-hand/Right-hand on all 3 pairs

Girard - Johnson
Cole - Barrie
Zadorov - Makar

Makar is older and its playoffs
I don't think playoffs would matter since it was 10 games of regular season and/or playoffs for Poehling. Poehling was also drafted in the same year, but would it be because Poehling is 1999 while Makar is 1998?

hughes contract slide because of the 10 games rule, Makar contract can't slide he's too old.

yes, the best exemple I could find of the guy drafted in 2013 is Nurse for makar. There was no 2013 sliding after playing in the nhl that year but there was a few ahl guy like Mantha that required protection while nurse didn't

Maybe not game 3, but very likely in game 4. Kid has to fly in from Buffalo. He should practice once with the team.

He gets to burn an elc year because the Avs are in the playoffs. I don't think he would qualify for the ED given his age.

He needs to be protected in the expansion draft the moment he plays even just 1 game now. He's a late birthday in his draft+2, so his waivers clock starts the instant he steps onto the ice under his ELC.

Given Cale's age & late birthday that doesn't matter. A single regular season game would've made him expansion draft eligible as well, like Timmins would've been if he had played this season...though since Timmins missed the entire year, he should be eligible for an injury waiver that keeps him safe from the expansion draft.

That seems unlikely. If we won't pay up because he only has 2 years on his resume, then why wouldn't he just take a bridge deal like Subban?

Makes no sense that he needs to be protected.
10 NHL game for ELC slide does include playoff games

20-year-olds can not have their ELCs slide any further, and because of his late birthday, Cale is considered to have signed this contract for his 20yo season. So there's no 10-game slide for Makar & his waiver-clock starts the moment he steps onto the ice under that deal.

To keep him safe he would have needed to sign his ELC for next season & finished this one playing in the AHL on an ATO.

Avs aren't that up against it if he plays anyways for expansion purposes.

Can either sign Barrie, or just trade him for a F before hand and go EJ/Girard/Makar

I know but he said that the rule were different for playoff. I know there's no slide for Makar.
