Nice for Namestnikov to get traded to a contender this time. It must have sucked to have been traded away from Tampa when they were a cup favourite

The most unexpected move of the deadline. Solid value only giving up a 4th.

Waaaaaaaaaaayy better than the Tampa deal.

4th for Vlad Namestnikov - 27 years old
Previous Career High - 22 goals - 48 assists
This Year - 56 games - 25 points
Pending UFA

1st for Barclay Goodrow - Turns 27 years old in three days
Previous Career High - 7 goals - 17 points
This Year - 62 games - 24 points
1 more year before UFA

Solid addition.

He should be able to help the PK but then again, can anyone help the PK if it's the system that's broken? I guess we'll find out.

Is he gonna bump Compher to the wing when we have a healthy lineup?

Edit: And bump Jost out??
For real tho when everyone is healthy we would keep 83 over 17?

Not clear but Namestnikov hasn't played much center the last two years. Only taken 96 draws this year and last.

Compher is still better on the wing IMO though so maybe they'll try out the new guy in the middle.

Moved this from the TDL thread.

I’m curious/hopeful that Kaut can push Nieto from the lineup when we’re completely healthy

Probably depends on how well Namestnikov does on the Avs PK. In addition to how Kaut/Nieto play.

Nieto leads all forwards in PK ice time, but they're pretty bunched up.

Nieto - 2:13
Calvert - 2:10
Compher - 2:10
Belly - 2:03
Nichuskin - 0:41

Namestnikov - 1:55 (4th in Ottawa)

He's also a better short handed goal scoring threat than Nieto.

Namestnikov - 10 shots - 4 goals
Calvert - 11 shots - 3 goals
Bellemare - 6 shots - 2 goals
Nieto - 5 shots - 2 goals
Compher - 6 shots - 0 goals

83 over 17 when healthy.

If we ever get to ice a completely healthy lineup again this season, IMO it should look like this:

Bura - Mack - Mikko
Landy - Kadri - Donskoi
Nuke - Compher - Namestnikov
Nieto - PEB - Calvert

Graves - Makar
Girard - EJ
Zadorov - Cole

Gruby
Francouz

PP1:
Landy
Mack - Nuke - Rantanen
Makar

PP2:
Namestnikov
Bura - Compher - Kadri
Girard

PK1:

Compher - Namestnikov
Zadorov - Cole

PK2:

Calvert - Nieto
Graves - EJ

PK3:
PEB - Donskoi

That's what I would do. I'd also seriously consider taking Compher off the 2nd PP unit, putting Kadri in his spot in the middle. Putting Girard on the half boards and letting Graves fire bombs from the point. Girard has a muffin shot and on the rare chance where PP2 actually gets set up in the offensive zone they rarely can do anything because Girards muffin isn't enough of a threat and thus they dont really pressure him much and attack the puck carriers way more than they should if G had a real shot. Stick Graves on the point firing bombs and let G and his silky puck skills do some work on the half boards. Could also utilize G for the creep in back door more like we used to do with Holden as Girard is pretty good at creeping into soft areas on the ice like that.

I actually like him than a lot of you lot. He's less talented than Burakovsky, but I think he's got a better motor and is more driven in work ethic. Plus, his point total has shown that he can play in the top 6 and still produce as he did with the Lightning. Honestly, I don't think it is wrong to call him a Russian version of Donskoi and I like these players. Wish we went a bit more physical like Josh Anderson, but all we got rid of was a 4th in a pretty weak year for him. Solid.

It's been said that he can play up and down the lineup, W or C.
We can try him at different spots, and see where he helps us most.

If he can play center, it makes him that much better a pickup. Way better than Josh '1 goal' Anderson
