Could be a home run. High-end skill set, hands, speed, will go to traffic, nice size (6'2" 195). Buried a bit on London but in a position to take on a bigger role and really take off.

Sucks about Cam Dineen going one pick before, though.

D be damned, great pick!

Had him ranked 47. Really was stuck behind London's great depth, kid is really good.

Only guys I would have preferred were Allard, Bitten or Green.

Great speed and skill. Big part of the Knight's second line down the stretch.

His numbers don't look great because of the line he played behind (played 30 mins a game, including the entire PP), but he has serious upside.

There was some talk about him being a potential 1st rounder. Kid has upside but played down the lineup in London. Next year he will have a lot of responsibility and we will really get to know what he's all about. Should be fun.

This is a great pick.

Having worked for the IceDogs, I saw a lot of Cliff Pu in the OHL Finals.

He is a skilled and extremely speedy forward. He's going to have a HUGE role on a strong Knights team next year.

Former OHL first round pick.

Future Considerations, 66:

66 CLIFF PU
POSITION: Center
SHOOTS: Right
TEAM: London (OHL)
BORN: June 3, 1998
VITALS: 6’-1” / 185 Lbs
STATS: 63 GP 12 G 19 A 31 PTS 24 PIM
Pu is a power forward with size and offensive skill. He displays good vision on the rush
with the puck while moving at top speed, able to see his options and seam a pass or keep it if needed. He looks poised with the puck as he stickhandles through the neutral zone and gains the zone, but opens himself up to get knocked over and have the puck taken away. Pu does a good job of protecting the puck on the wall or in the corner as he waits for support to appear and move it to his man. He picks up his check on the backcheck and works hard down low, grabbing loose pucks and getting into open space to escape the zone or feed his man through a passing lane to spark the rush. He does a good job of settling bouncing pucks and bad passes while in movement, continuing up ice unfazed. Pu is a like a dog on a bone at times, trying to get the puck off the man in the corner and down ice with strong back pressure. He is used as more of a depth scoring option due to London’s high-end talent up front, but he has done an admirable job creating offense nonetheless while also limiting the chances against and playing on the second penalty killing unit. Pu does a good job getting the inside track on footraces and turning up ice to make the smart play. Because he skates well, he displays some offensive skill and has size. We think he will blossom and take his game to the next level when the likes of Marner, Dvorak and Tkachuk graduate and he moves into London’s top six. He has the talent to develop into a scoring threat in the OHL, but may need some time.

High compete, two-way forward who combines great speed and hockey sense with a workmanlike mindset.

Scouting report:
Like this kid more every time we’ve seen him. One of the most improved players in ohl. Really like his size, speed and hockey sense. Does all the little things that win games. Has great acceleration and top skating speed, creates separation from other players very quickly. Has high hockey iq, makes quick decisions with the puck in tight areas. Is a great energy player, doesn't take any shifts off. Good in the faceoff circle. Biggest liability is his strength, tends to get muscled off the puck too much. Didn't display much of a shot which he'll need to work on for the next level. Is much underrated, should go in the 2nd - 3rd round and will be a steal. Will be the top center for london next season.

Iss scout t. Macfarlane: “strong skating game along with soft hands. Strong on the all. Pu in my opinion has improved as well as anyone over the course of this season. Smart playmaker - high energy kind of player. Won’t disappoint.”

iss scout a. Degroot: “responsible player especially in his own end. Does a good job being a second layer in the d zone and identifies his man quickly. Reads play well as he picked off lots of passes through the nuetral zone. Think by next year he will be a top forward for london as has a great upside.”

nhl potential: Speedy second line center.

#69 Cliff Pu

#55 on our Draft list.

Cliff Pu has the skating and defensive skill to eventually become an NHLer. The question here is how much offensive upside there is. He might explode with increased icetime and a bigger role next year, showing potential as a top 6 player, in much the way that the Knights Christian Dvorak, or Dominic Turgeon of the Portland Winterhawks have done in recent years. They struggled in limited roles during their draft year, but became much better prospects following their draft year, as their ice time increased. In terms of Pu’s style, he is comparable to Kyle Turris of the Ottawa Senators; but this is a stylistic comparison only and not one based on skill.

can he play 3rd/4th line or is he top6 or bust?

He can play 3rd line hard-forecheck/PK role because of his speed.

I don't have a problem with this pick here because of the upside but unfortunate that JD Greenway came off a couple picks later, I liked that kid for long-term development LD.
