I don't know of any hockey friendly bars, but if you head to the Q arena there will be a live game between the Monsters and Wilkes-Barre. They are also having Monstoberfest that night.

The Tilted Kilt is right at the corner of Prospect and Ontario, opposite the Jack Casino. They have lots of TV's and they probably would switch to one of the monitors to the game for a paying customer. They have DirecTv, not sure if they have Center Ice, but I wouldn't be surprise if they do. There is a BW3's down a couple blocks on Prospect between E6th and E9th street. There is a Winking Lizard at the point of Prospect and Huron at E9th. Also there is an area on the second floor of the casino where there is a wall of TV screens. So those may be options.

Edit: It is also possible that the Indians may have a playoff game that night, so if that's going on, either home or away, your chances will go down a bit. There always is, as was stated earlier, the Monsters vs WBS Penguins for a hockey fix.

so it appears that the lovely folks at Discount Drug Mart are not offering Monsters tickets as a redemption for my pro points anymore... Glad I saved them up all year. Guess I'll just get a loaf of bread instead.

I doubt anybody really understands this post, but it really bums me out. I've gone to so many free games thanks to Drug Mart.

Vogelhuber, Korostelev and Wade on camp try-outs for the Monsters

Seems to indicate that Gallant and Austin have SPCs (or at least regular-season PTOs).

And maybe Letestu.

He was cut early by the Panthers, so you'd guess the Monsters are his next best option on a two-way deal?

theres already no room for him why would he even choose the monsters

He lives in Ohio, is a strong candidate to transition into coaching in the organization, is probably still better than most of the other Cleveland veterans.

but Cleveland wont pay a vet 250k to sit in the press box they might sit gallant and roll with the others but that's already a stretch. but if they dont ink Vogelhuber I guess he could come.

Assuming Columbus keeps 8 dmen to start the year, including all of Clendening/Carlsson/Kukan, that leaves one spot for a 13th forward (Davidsson/Milano/Sedlak/Hannikainen). Let's say JD is sent to the SHL, Milano sent down because he can pass waivers, and we lose Hanni or Sedlak on waivers and the other is 13F for CBJ. Any way we slice it, there's a lot of forwards in Cleveland fighting for playing time (this is a good thing)--I assume Vogelhuber doesn't stick because of whatever AHL rules on number of veterans. Might Cleveland see something like the following?

Milano-Dalpe-Gerbe
Broadhurst-Stenlund-Abramov
Thurkauf-Vigneault-Robinson
Scott/Gallant-MacInnis-Sherwood/Koules
X: Bittner, Vogelhuber
ECHL: DeSalvo, Korostelev

Austin-Cross
Prapavessis-Collins
Simpson-Siebenaler
X: Somerby/Cockerill
ECHL: Wade

Berube
Kivlenieks
ECHL: Thiessen

I was at practice today. Thiessen was the only player who stood out. Mostly they were working on systems and doing conditioning work.

The way too early practice lines (lines in no particular order, no order within lines either - i.e. forward lines not LW-C-RW, defensive pairings not in L-R order)

Korostelev, Gallant, Dalpe
Scott, Bittner, DeSalvo
MacInnis, Gerbe, Abramov
Thurkauf, Fortier, Sherwood
Koules, Vogelhuber (players who needed extra work filled in on this line)

Cross, Collins
Siebenaler, Somerby
Wade, Simpson
Austin, Cockerill

Thiessen

Don't read too much, if anything, into these lines. It's early and camp and several players were/are not in camp yet.

Letestu signed and is on waiver so I guess both no way they sign Volgelhuber now.

Kinda hope they name Letestu captain.

Also if Broadhurst go down they don't have room for Austin too. but they can keep Gallant and bench him most of the game

So I just did the math (because I'm neurotic and bored). The AHL rules are "Of the 18 skaters (not counting two goaltenders) that teams may dress for a game, at least 13 must be qualified as “development players.” Of those 13, 12 must have played in 260 or fewer professional games (including AHL, NHL and European elite leagues), and one must have played in 320 or fewer professional games. All calculations for development status are based on regular-season totals as of the start of the season."

Between 260-320 pro games:
F Alex Broadhurst
D Brady Austin

More than 320 pro games
C Zac Dalpe
C Nathan Gerbe
F Trent Vogelhuber (PTO)
LW Brett Gallant (unquestionably will be sitting most games)
C Mark Letestu
D Tommy Cross
D Adam Clendening (likely starting off in Columbus)

With how not great the rest of the defensemen are (looking at you, Collins and Siebenaler) with injuries you'd expect at least two of Austin, Cross, and Clendening to be prioritized. I can't imagine Broadhurst not playing. To start the year I think they'll be okay with Broadhusrt, Austin, Dalpe, Gerbe, Letestu, and Cross playing and Gallant sitting. When/if Clendening gets sent down, I wonder what they'll do.

trade or release him or never sign him to a full contract so they can just release him when it happen
Clendening? He signed a 1 year two-way contract with us. I meant who from Letestu/Broadhurst/Gerbe/Dalpe and Clendening/Austin/Cross doesn't play or gets moved by Cleveland.

Austin, he is the only one of those without a contract he can play 25 games without singing a full contract.

if Broadhurst is actually injured or start in the nhl for whatever reason they could play with Vogelhuber on a PTO too but he probably gonna get full contract offer from other team.

and btw Austin was also on a PTO for his first 25 games last year so thats a likely situation especially with Clendening and Carlsson in Columbus

That's fair; I didn't know that about Austin, but it makes sense.

Attended practice today. Lot more work on game situations (and a lot of passing drills) today than yesterday.

All of the players sent down yesterday practiced except Berube (practice didn't end until noon).

Forward lines (wings switched sides a lot):

Wine: Center - MacInnis, Wings - Abramov and Gerbe
Gray: Center - Vigneault, Wings - DeSalvo and Thurkauf
Powder Blue: Center - Vogelhuber, Wings - Bittner, Fortier, and Koules
White: Center - Dalpe, Wings - Robinson and Korostelev
Royal Blue - Center - Scott, Wings - Sherwood and Gallant

Defense pairings kept rotating.

For anyone wondering how they practiced with one goalie, they didn't. They had a local goalie filling in until Berube arrives (I'm assuming he cleared waivers).

By the way, Broadhurst (in red non-contact jersey) and Kivlenieks worked out on the ice before the main practice.

Letestu needs to clear waivers, so he probably won't practice in Cleveland until Monday. Stenlund is the only other player I could see coming to Cleveland from Jackets camp.

I will not be at practice tomorrow (need to get an oil change). I will be at a couple of practices next week.
