So the defence looks like:
Chabot - Karlsson
Borowiecki - Ceci
Harpur - Wideman (if he signs)
Wolanin/Jaros/Englund/Lajoie competing for 7th D position.

Claesson - RFA

The third pairing is of concern.

Not a fan of him at all, but can't argue with the contract. At worst, he provides injury depth and can be flipped at the deadline.

Not if you have it paired like that.

Boro-Wideman is a fine pairing.

I am also fine with Wolanin - Wideman pairing.

right now it looks like.

Chabot - Karlsson
Woalanin - Ceci
Boro - Wideman

Is Wideman gambling on EK getting traded leading to himself potentially getting top PP time?

I am still surprised he's staying considering his usage by Boucher prior to his injury, but maybe I overestimated the kind of interest he'd have from other teams.

Damn. Love Wideman, just wish it was for more term... Was hoping to sign him for 3-4 year deal, not a 1 year deal, but happy he'll be back.

Its way too risky to sign a guy to that term coming off that kind of injury. Also, we should have a team policy where no one who's a bottom pairing, 4th line or back up goalie get any more term than one year. That shit is killing us.

One year is great for both team and player.

Wonder what the D looks like next year. I'd like to see if Wolanin has a great camp and plays himself onto the roster. Boro might be the odd man out.

I'm actually kind of shocked that Wideman didn't test the UFA market, and instead settled on a 1-year deal here for what basically amounts to the veteran's minimum contract.
