I'm sorry but, there have to be (almost) a trillion better options than this guy. I can't think of one thing he doesn't reliably well. It's like every game he's some random dude who manages to sneak on the ice wearing a Flyers jersey and they let him play. Why not anyone else? I just don't understand.

The best word to describe his is "bland". He's just so underwhelming in every single aspect of the game, obviously belongs in the AHL.

Doesn't hit, doesn't score, doesn't fight, doesn't do anything well

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. It's like I'm the only guy who knows he's a Flyer. The boards don't mention him, the broadcasters don't mention him, the GM or Coach doesn't mention him, does he even exist?

He should be the 13th forward who only plays in case of a short term injury.

Problem isn't VV, it's that they have no one better who's NHL ready.
You could rush Cousins, Straka or Leier, but you won't get much production and you might set their development back a year.
You could try Jones, but he played worse than VV.
You could bring back Akeson, but even Edmonton didn't claim him, so talentwise he's the same thing, an AHL player.

This seems to be a problem that Flyers fans don't want to face, the reason they play VV, Umberger and Vinnie is there aren't a lot of viable options in the organization and Hextall isn't going to rush players for a marginal improvement.

VV is awful (Jones was, Manning was), he's just meh. A JAG.

Or they could have just signed a legit 4th liner

Did Bellemare die or something? He's obviously a large step above VV but our idiot coach, who you pathetically defend, doesn't realize that.

He makes the minimum. He's a good player to have on your roster in case you're somewhere and you're stuck and need the body. He's not someone who should have to play more than 2 or 3 games in a row. Of course, yes, there's better options.

VandeVelde - 38 GP 6G 5A 11PTS
Rinaldo - 201GP 7G 13A 20PTS

VandeVelde's on pace for 72GP/11G/9A/20PTS. He's on his way to matching Rinaldo's career offensive output in one season. If Hextall needed anymore reason to cut bait with Rinaldo this is it.

He won't be a long term guy but ride it out until proven otherwise by then your guys from the minors should be able to step in.

VandeVelde is exactly what we need on the 4th line: decent skating, size, chips in a goal every once in a while and he is cost-effective.
Plus he is in his late Twenties already which means he accepts that 4th line role and will never turn into a distraction in the locker room.

If he could learn how to PK that would be like whipped cream on the cake. But that would increase his value and cap hit as well.
