I dunno I feel like Chris is clearly better. Like in a different tier.

You feel like that because its true. Niedermeyer retired after basically his best couple seasons so people have some nostalgia over him. He also gets overrated in Canadian media for winning a lot. Pronger is on a different tier from him

2 of the greatest dmans of our generation, it's unfortunate Neidermayer had to spend most of his prime on a trapping defence first time, (although the late 2000's Devils were high powered) this one is close I like Neidermayer more but this one is Pronger due to added nastiness, size.

The one who when both of them were on the same team was the captain, won the Smythe and was on the first all-star team.

True Pronger has a higher peak but their primes were similar. The difference Nieds was more consistent (though under appreciated until later in his career) and a better presence and leader for his team. The type of player who you build Winning teams around. Pronger was a top “last piece” addition but never lasted more than a couple years on any team but St Louis and had lockroom issues.

I recall watching them together in 2002, 2010 and closely in 2007, Pronger although not predictable if people like him more absolutely not on a different tier. Neidermayer was equally had as much as a presence as Pronger.

You've already lost when your main argument is to count cups.

agreed. He was the main reason I believe the Oilers and Flyers made it to the finals in 2006 and 2010.

Some of this is fair criticism of Pronger, whose abrasive presence tends to get swept under the rug as “old school”. There’s a reason he moved around the league so much.

That being said, no his prime was not similar to Niedermayer’s. It’s being VERY generous to Nieds to say he had only 2 or 3 fewer “elite” type seasons than Pronger.

Weird to see a real appreciation for Pronger for once. I take him over Neidermeyer, but not because Scott wasn't amazing in his own right. Heck, he's maybe underrated now. I just think Pronger was that friggin good.

Not sure why this question doesn't come up more often.

Pronger but not by much at their peaks, but Pronger had better longevity so it's him.
