It's been three years since Green has been a top pairing defenseman on a regular basis.

Well to be fair besides so far this season that is basically the same amount of time Green has been dealing with fairly significant injury issues.

Plus he can no longer lean on Jeff 'The Rock' Schultz... ;)

Good resigning of Chimera. He might have gotten a little more had he gone to Free Agency, but that says something about his feelings for the organization, area, and Oates.

Yeah this makes me happy. I was just wondering what they were going to do with Chimera being a UFA.

He truly is part of the team and he has absolutely brought it every playoffs.

I still remember him and his wife were crying when they first heard he got traded here but he seems to love it here now.

Big fan of this signing

So Chimera gets 2 x 2m. Good for him, and good deal. Right now, with less ice time and no PP time, he's easily outscoring Brouwer and Laich combined. It won't last, but still.

Even if his performance goes south, this is a contract that's very easy to unload. So basically, zero risk.

Good signing. The offense will obviously dry up somewhat, but he and Ward have been excellent together.

You sure did. Great job man; I don't think anyone else here even saw this coming, never mind almost predicted the cap hit. :handclap:

as a general rule these kind of extensions are in the works for quite some time. when there were many here suggesting during pre season and camp that the caps move chimera in order to keep perreault, this deal was already down to the small details.

so, his solid offensive performance is more likely a result of knowing is future than about playing for one.

edit: its helpful to keep the actual timeline for these things in mind. he didn't sign the contract today. it was signed in recent weeks and spent some time at the league getting its approval. then the team announced it when they wanted to have some time to address it with the media and get some headlines over it.

its just a guess, but McPhee likely decided to keep Chimera over the off season and opened talks for Fishman after the ufa period.

Just happy he didn't want to test the market like Hendricks. As long as he continues to deliver of course. ;)

I think it's easy to suggest it was all part of McPhee's master plan, but reality is, Chimera could have and maybe SHOULD have tested free agency after seeing what Hendricks got. My ONLY guess why he didn't choose to at least wait, was that he's 34 (2 yrs older than Hendricks), and probably realized he wasn't getting a 4 year deal as an UFA at his current age.
