Haha yes great to have Chico back around! Definitely going to have to swap out the tv team for the radio for some games.

He's improved, but he's no Chico.

I was kidding about my Chico/Dano suggestion, but on some level it would probably be supremely entertaining.

"Shot by Sajac, score! Oh boy!"

"You said it Dano. Now watch this play here, Greene is going to pass this to...Oh I'm sorry that's Hall...is going to get the puck to Travis and he's going to shoot this high glove side....Oh wait along the ice under the pad....I didn't see that!"

"Nothing lacksadaisical about that Chico! HAHAHA!"

I wonder why the change of heart for Chico. I remember he said he wanted to spend more time with his family in Minnesota when he retired...I guess he just missed hockey to much.

Going way out on a limb here but I would bet it was some sort of health issue for either him or a family member. I'd imagine that resolved itself one way or another. Just a complete guess though on my part.

Could be right, I got the feeling he needed to leave, but didn't really "want" to leave.
Who's taking over for Johnny Mac ??????????

From what I recall, it was his wife's mother, who was ill at the time. So they went to Minnesota. She wound up passing away, only about a year after he left. He mentioned after that happened, that he'd like to come back to work for us, if they could find something to do for him.

Bryce Salvador has already taken over for him.

I think I'd like Chico in that spot, and have Bryce upstairs doing commentary on the radio. Only because of my selfish reasons, for not listening to the game on the radio. Chico also wouldn't have to travel in that role, but maybe he likes travelling? I guess they also would rather Chico in that spot, as he has experience doing color commentary, whereas Bryce has no experience, so they'll ease him in for a more secondary role, where he doesn't have to do as much/talk as much to start off with.

This surprised the bleep out of me as this came totally out of left field.

I am VERY VERY HAPPY to have CHICO back calling(or at least doing color commentary) on Devils games again. Looks like we all have the option of either watching the Hockey game with the sound on(listening to Steve/Dano) and off (Matt/Chico).

I think Chico might prefer radio in that you don't always need an analyst in the radio booth. If he wanted to miss a game or two on a long road trip, then it's not the end of the world

Why does Dano still say Zajac like ''Sajak'' the dude from Wheel Of Fortune? I understand if it's a one or two time mistake, but that's his standard pronunciation of the name.

I remember Chico once called him Sajak. I believe it was in his first game back after being injured in 11-12. His first game back, the second time he came back. He scored the shootout winner and Chico went ''Popping the water bottle, mr Sajak!''. Usually he pronounced it with a Z.

Sherry wasn't popular with the NEW NHL fans because she was critical and old-school in her analysis of the team. Some might think that was hard to listen to in the tough 5 years we've had but I think the more educated and well traveled fans enjoyed that aspect. I will miss her not directly but from the early days when I lived far, far out of region and listened to all the games on WABC with Mike Miller and her calling the games. Those two were perfection because you didn't need to see it if you played the sport, you could see it between Mike calling the play and Sherry telling you the vibe of the game doing color and summing up what any coach would see watching the game from a tactical angle. She knows the game like no other woman in the sport and I will miss her even though I haven't listened to her thanks to NHL Center Ice in the many years since the WABC days. 770 on your am dial... man those were good days. Not necessarily just a for the team back then but for savoring every moment of Devils hockey and hockey in general for that matter. When you're young, full of passion for the sport and love everything about getting to be in or around the game.

6 am Sunday pickup games, Tuesday and Thursday night rec league games, driving an hour for open ice times and finding some local minor league guys getting dressed with you, or even after-hours at the local rink because you know the guy working last shift and cleaning the ice before he locks up so you buy him a 12 pack to let you shoot around with your buds for an hour... that's the thread this game is sewn from. That smell when you walk into the rink early morning and just know you're next to a big sheet of ice that's been sitting all night freshly cleaned , set up with a little frost on top, waiting for you to take that first step to skate around before taking some shots to warm up the goalie... moments man... moments.

I just wish they would bring back Chico Eats! Can't do that on the radio.

Saugus!?

Maybe they can ask Chico what he ate before he came to the rink each 1st intermission

"Well, ya know Matty, I talked to the deli employee this morning and told her to put some hot sauce on my taylor ham, egg and cheese. Hubba hubba!"
