This could be the basis of a deal. Pieces can be added.

From my point of view, Chicago should move Saad. He's become complacent here and doesn't mesh with our top 6 group. Namestnikov is comparable and could slot on the second line with Kane and Schmaltz. I think both players could use a shakeup by playing on different teams.
What is the price for Saad to Vancouver.

Rangers add.... but they don;t want Saad. Sure as f*** don't want to add picks to the mix and definitely not prospects.

What about just picks from Chicago for Namestnikov? Maybe they keep Saad to make a playoff push, or sell him in a separate trade.

NYR would prefer futures as a return, and CHI would look silly to downgrade a player again. They can't trade Panarin for Saad, then Saad for Namestnikov. Even with whatever plus may be added, it looks really bad.

What picks gets Namestnikov?

Chi gets

Lucic
Russel

Edmonton gets
Saad
Schmaltz

God no.

Lucic is atrocious now. Saad is just underperforming the expectations of being a consistent 30 goal scorer or close to it. Saad can at least keep up with the play, play 200ft responsibly, and is still young enough to just figure out his consistency issues.

Schmaltz is looking like a consistent 60 pt player

not giving that up for a toxic lucic with more term remaining than Saad and is much older, then basically swapping schamltz for Russel who is nothing more than a glorified shot blocking third pair D

This makes Chicago so, so much worse

Some people have given up on him. Which is stupid. Dude is only 25 and had a historically low shooting percentage last year.

He plays with Kane and only has a point schmaltz has only 4 points too he sucks as well

and was on a line that had two linemates who were doing nothing to help him either.

Chicago's defense was terrible offensively in scoring and pushing the play up to the forwards (since Quenneville doesnt like them skating up ice and jumping into the play unless its desperation mode).

Saad had a terrible shooting percentage year

Toews was pretty terrible in his own right centering him last year and was not creating plays or opportunities for his linemates until they fell far out of the playoff race (Toews looks a million times better this year already and noticeably creating opportunities for the line as well as himself)

The other wing on the Toews/Saad line was combinations of Duclair, Panik, Hinostroza, etc. Nothing close to resembling top line talent to work with.

Chicago's power play scheme has been terrible for the better part of a decade

Pair that all together, you have a career low year

Rangers will get a 2nd for names , forget about the conditional late pick .

Sounds about right to me. Chicago would be better served by just getting Namestnikov for a 2nd (ish) and see if they can get back to the playoffs.

Leave Saad out of it completely. Trade him separately if that's what they want to do. You'll get something better than a 2nd, I would assume.

Chicago has cap room for the first time since '09. They could fit Namestnikov in at the deadline, I believe, with nothing going back.
