Like Alex Nylander and Malcolm Subban he is a great young talent in Stanley's eyes

Since Stanley knows more then everyone else he goes out and gets those players no matter the cost to show the world how great he is at talent evaluation

And it works,, Just look at how amazing Nylander and Subban have been for Hawks

What's with all these giant trades? (although minor)

I don't ever remember him pumping subbans tires like that. I recall him saying he's never really been given a shot to run with it but not much more than that. obviously he's been really high on nylander and the injury is derailing to see if this was his make or break year

but it was more the outrage of giving up jokiharju to get him, but joker has not looked like any great loss either. granted buffalo is a dumpster fire, he hasn't looked all that impactful at either end of the ice IMO

I saw Connolly and Stillman and thought this was a gravedig from 2006.

As a Panther fan, the best asset we’re giving is Stillman. He’s got some decent upside.

It's expensive reclamation project + reclamation project + dime a dozen bottom defender for cap space to land something significant. Well done Florida.

According to cap friendly the Hawks have 11.6 million this offseason, not including Seabrook LTIR, with no big RFA’s and 16 players signed. Even if Borgstrom doesn’t pan out it’s a worthy risk

Yeah, but it takes a special level of "boredness" to trade two Lucas in the same trade.

I think Stiller is gonna be good for Chicago. They're rebuilding, I dont buy the notions that they have no use for him. You always need a lot of young d-men when you're rebuilding. He's close to being at the level where he would be a regular for several nhl teams. It sucks to lose him, he's a solid prospect, but to get rid of Connolly it's worth it.

He could, he's had a good season in Liiga. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if he has a very productive season in 21-22, and it wouldnt surprise me if he bombed either. At this point it just comes down to how bad he wants it. He has all the tools.

Hawks Euro Scouting should make anyone dismissing this as a nothing trade think again

Yeah, it's not. Its a worthwhile gamble on two young players, which is what a rebuilding team like Chicago should be doing. They give up nothing in this trade. I'd say good trade for both teams.

If it makes you feel any older, Riley is in fact Cory’s child.

It's an interesting take considering how his pro career has turned out so far but Borgström was absolutely electric in college hockey.

True and he was always considered a late bloomer but now he's nearly 24. Decent skater, lots of skill but a perimeter player at the nhl level last time he played. His game seemed a lot more suited for bigger ice tbh.

Borgstrom is a name I had not followed in a little while. Last I had read was that Montreal did not have a single asset worth half of this guy. Never root for a guy to fail though; hope he can get it going in CHI

Supposedly, Tallon could’ve gotten McDonagh from NYR when they traded him, but wouldn’t include Borgstrom in the deal. Tallon was stubbornly loyal to his draft picks.
