I guess the Cubs are eating a larger chunk of $$?

His salary is 23.5 M. Phillies are paying 2.5 M of that. So the Rangers were on the hook for 21 M, a 1/3 of the season remains essentially, so 7 M was left to be paid.

But there is also a 6 M payment when his option is not picked up this winter (unless for some reason the Cubs want to pay him 20 M), so I don't know if that is 100% on the Cubs.

Hmm. Big game pitcher?
Great NL stats?
Back in NL?
Better WAR then Bryce Harper while pitching in a bandbox?

That guy Hamels?

Cubs got a solid vet for nothing. I'm loving this trade.

- he hasn't had good playoff stats in 7 years
- "great NL stats" ... yea 3/4 years ago when he was younger
- Its already a  to compare pitchers & position players with WAR, but its not shocking he has more than Harper considering he started his career 6 seasons earlier.

Hamels has more WAR than Harper this season....but not sure what that has anything to do with anything....just means they have both been pretty bad this year so far.

pretty drastic home/road splits. whether it means anything I don't know.

6.41 ERA in Arlington vs 2.93 ERA on the Road.

no time table for Darvish to return and Cole is definitely a more reliable starter than Mike Montgomery and probably Chatwood too.
