So does this qualify as a bridge deal then since it takes him almost to UFA but not quite? I like the term and AAV just fine. It pays the kid enough to be competitive offer- wise, but leaves room for the "show me" I feel like ought to be part of this discussion if he is going to start asking for $8 mil or upwards.
Nice to see Gardnier signing with the Canes today for 4.05 AAV.
This should help the Bruins case with Big Mac?
At least he stayed in the Conference which is a plus for us, when we play the Canes. LOL
3 years 15 million for werenski
More Carlo type money than McAvoy
should be a decent comp for CM no? If I`m only looking at stats alone ZW has produced more, obviously he hasn`t had the injury issues CM has either but still
While I think McAvoy will be/already is the far better overall D-man, for what both have done thus far, seems to be a good number if the B`s were able to get CM at the same
3 years 18 million should be close. no?
If we can get Mac at that money, I'm all for it but I think it is more likely that Carlo might get something similar or just a little less.
Man I love Carlo, was really hoping for a 3.5/4 million dollar figure but maybe that`s just me dreaming
I'm hoping no more than 4 mil for Carlo
100% with you there
Doesn't really feel like McAvoy should get any more than what Werenski just got. I don't watch enough of Werenski to really compare them, but I think the talent is similar, and even if you think that McAvoy is better, he's got the injury issues that Werenski doesn't have. Before this all started, I figured McAvoy would get $5-5.5 million on a 2, maybe 3 year deal, and this signing points to that.
For Carlo, defense-only defensemen generally aren't paid as much. I figured he'd get a bridge deal in the $3.5 million-range.
If Charlie signs for $6m for 3 years or just shy of it, I"m ecstatic. I value Carlo a little higher than some here but I don't follow what other D man in his category make.
Mcavoy should be 2 years x 4.75
Carlo should be 3 years x 3.25
I would be happy if Sweeney paid more to get Carlo lockup longer
But if I'm being honest... isn't Werenski more of a comp for McAvoy than Carlo?
I think Werenski at 5M hurts Carlo getting anything near that.
Very much disagree.... this should be a bench mark for a bridge deal for McAvoy... in and around that number. Carlo and Werenski two entirely different players. Werenski much more like Chuckie. Awesome that CBJ was able to sign him to that deal because that should help out Sweens a lot.
4 years 5.75 for Mac, still leaves him as an RFA after
Carlo will get far less imo. He can't hit the side of a barn. Excellent defensive dman, but players get the big $ for putting up points.
We will agree to disagree.
We can always disagree, but I'm wondering why you think Werenski is closer to Carlo than McAvoy would be?
Not attacking your point of view, just honestly curious.
Zero chance Carlo gets 5mil on even an 8 year deal (just my opinion). I don't expect him to get more than 4. It would behoove him to take maybe a 3 year 3.5 mil deal and see if he cant turn it into an 8 year 5 mil at the end of that term if he starts to bring more offense.
I don't think they are the same player but I do think his contract sets the max for Carlo. As for McAvoy, I think this is the starting point for his contract.
I think Carlo is a bit underrated by many. He may not score but he's grown leaps and bounds defensively and he's going to get paid like a 3-4 D man.
Bruins are wise to go short term so they can get Backes deal off
I’m their agent I recommend THREE years
Both sides should want short term
