There was no factual reason for optimism that this would happen. The organization was repeating the same pattern as they did with other key signings to date.

Unlike other ones, they got this one done. I'm impressed, shocked, and suddenly optimism for the future of the on-ice product seems downright reasonable. But, taking a "See? You negative types were wrong all along" tack is both counter-productive and ignorant of the fact that this is (finally) a break away from what was very clearly not working.
