A Monahan trade that actually makes CGY better (imo).

To CGY:
Mark Scheifele & Giovanni Vallati

To WPG:
Sean Monahan & Juuso Valimaki

Monahan: 0.76 ppg over 541 games - 26 yrs old - 6th overall - 6.3 million a year for 3 more years
Scheifele: 0.85 ppg over 519 games - 27 yrs old - 7th overall - 6.1 million a year for 4 more years

Why it could make sense: The flames have a log jam on the left side, atleast until Gio declines/retires. The cost controlled aspect for a top 4 D in Valimaki is great for a Jets team looking to keep their cap flexibility and resign some top guys. The flames upgrade the center position with a bigger stronger version of Monahan in Scheifele, who is a right shot in a sea of lefties in CGY. Plays with more of an edge and it more of a Treliving type.

Valimaki is the flames top prospect and will be very hard to trade, but Scheifele..

To jets fans coming at me saying Valimaki isnt enough to bridge the gap between the two players -look into the guy, and /or come back in two years and tell me what you think.

Monahan PPG: 0.76 ppg over 541 games - 26 yrs old - 6th overall - 6.3 million a year for 3 more years
Scheifle PPG: 0.85 ppg over 519 games - 27 yrs old - 7th overall - 6.1 million a year for 4 more years

Nice misdirection using their career numbers instead of say, the last 2 years
Schiefele has been a ppg for the last 4 years. Monahan has not.
Math is also wrong. Monahan is a career .76 player

Edited the math, Thanks.

Monahan last two seasons is 130 points in 148 games. He was over a point per game in 2018-2019 (82 pts in 78 games)
Scheifele last two seasons is 157 points in 153 games.

Scheifele will retire as a Jet.
I agree, and somewhat think the same for Monahan. I know this would never ever happen but the goal was to create a realistic proposal that makes the team better. I dont think the value is bad.

You love to cherry pick stats to make your point dont you

if you compare their last 5 years you will see how far apart the two are

If you want to use tiny samples lets look at this season

Schiefele 2019-20 73 pts in 71 games, Monahan 2019-20 48 pts in 70 games

Schiefele
2015-16 61 pts in 71 games
2016-17 82 pts in 79 games
2017-18 60 pts in 60 games
2018-19 84 pts in 82 games
2019-20 73 pts in 71 games

All but one year he was a point per game player

Monahan

2015-16 62 pts in 81 games
2016-17 58 pts in 82 games
2017-18 64 pts in 82 games
2018-19 82 pts in 78 games
2019-20 48 pts in 70 games

In one season he was a point per game player and wasn't even close in any other season.

If you compare playoff stats it shows very much the same thing Schiefele has 26 pts in 28 games and Monahan has 21 points in 30 games. One player consistently produces at over very near a point per game pace and the other does not.

They are not close to being on the same level and Monahan just had a terrible year.

Sam Bennet and Monahan might get Scheifele if he's available, but I don't think he's going anywhere at any price

The Jets decline easily. I don't get the hate Monahan gets on here, but he doesn't return Scheifele even with a good young player. Honestly I doubt the Jets would consider any offer that wasn't absolutely outlandish.

Yeah no from the jets anytime . I respect the proposal though. A franchise center on a good term with the salary cap ain’t going nowhere

Interesting deal. As is, heavily favours the Flames. That could be the polar opposite as soon as mid next season.

Valimaki has #1D potential.

The stated reason from OP - it makes the Flames better - is the reason the Jets decline. It makes the Jets worse.

Jets need D help. Schiefele is similar to Monahan in production, plus you would get a top 4 in Hanifin. Change of scenery trade.

I just came here to say Monahan is horrible. he's so bad he's dragging down gaudreau's ability to impact the game

I think you might have Bennet a smidge over rated here.
Valimaki >>>Bennett’s value .And jets fans have already said nope to that offer so swapping out a stud young D for Bennet is not going to be seen as a good offer
