Tampa's D is set. Injury on the right side we bring up Cernak. Injury on left side and we can play Koekkoek or bring Sergachev back to left side. Pretty much set. No reason to trade Johnson.

CGY has too many D, and even though they may regret giving away Brodie, he has a decent contract and would not have to play as high of a role in Tampa. Maybe middle 6 D.

Jankowski looks like he could be a 2nd 3rd line centre on most teams, needs to grow more. Most importantly, he has a small contract that Tampa can use to their benefit. As Tampa is fairly cap squeezed, moving Johnson can make room for their future young guns like Gourde and Sergachev.

CGY get's a 2nd line centre that has equal or more talent than Backlund, they get stronger up the middle which they need.

I would ideally trade these to Flames for a future goalie, but all the ones that CGY would want are UFA in the off season (Bob, Varly) or can't be had (Saros
I don't see Johnson making the second line when the line with Mathew, Backlund and frolic, have the shut down chemistry that they do. He would be 3Rd line

And Janowski would maybe make our fourth line even with Johnson gone, and that’s only if we keep Gourde at the wing.

Why is Calgary adding Jankowski to get TJ? And with Calgary having Monahan and Backlund as their 1/2 with Ryan, Bennett and Jankowski available to be the 3c... center depth probably isn't a huge issue for them...

I mean if you want to move Brodie because you have too many blueliners, that probably won't be that hard... but I don't see why Calgary would make this deal. Jankowski in his 2nd pro season and rookie NHL season had almost as many goals as TJ, and half the points and comes in with 1/4 of the cap hit.

Weren’t there threads this offseason offering Johnson as a negative asset?

Now he’s worth a top 4 RHD +

Keep making sense HFBoards. Just keep making sense.

Johnson's never been a negative asset. HF is often "all or nothing," so when a guy can't repeat a great season he's had in the past, obviously he sucks. ...

Johnson's been solid, but injury-prone. He's a 20 goal guy in a bad year, and proven in the playoffs. We have no reason to trade him right now. And he changed his training in the off-season and has suddenly regained the top gear he had in 2015, and it's been between him and Point for our best forward so far this year.

Value doesn't even matter, Calgary fans will say Brodie is a top 4 while Johnson a 3rd liner while Tampa will say Johnson is top 6 while Brodie is bottom pair, it makes no sense. The reason Tampa would consider moving Johnson is for cap reasons and this doesn't help as they take on more cap. Brodie is also a UFA in less than 2 years while Johnson has 3 more years than him. Stone would make more sense in regards to handidness and cost to acquire but not sure he'll be more than a 6/7 so not worth it either.

Certain members of the Lightning fanbase on this forum drastically and ridiculously underrate Johnson. He’s always been worth a top four RD and frankly one a hell of a lot better than Brodie’s been lately.

Pretty fair trade, but more of a post-season trade.

We might have Stralman and Girardi leaving after this year. But for now the defense is fine
