So if Ceci gets the middle and gets like 4.7 or whatever it is, do the Sens let him walk?

Nah, he could still easily be traded and return something of value. Even in that scenario, though, I bet they'd just retain him.

Ceci is like Phaneuf.. A good defensemen who gets played above his ability. He's a #5 who is played like a #3. Throw him on a team bottom pair and he would be one of the most under rated guys in the game. He needs to have depth in front of him.

To be fair, Ceci is deployed like a #1 DMan.

31st in TOI and top 10 when you take away PP time. Easily the highest QoC amongst Sens DMen.

If he was deployed like a #3, even, he'd do a lot better.

So these things usually result in one year deals? Are there ever multi year deals handed out in these cases?

It is the choice of the party that did not initiate the process (in this case, and in most cases, the team). Said party gets the choice between 1 or 2 years. This only occurs in cases where the player has at least 2 RFA years (meaning Stone is only eligible for a 1-year deal in arbitration).

Cool, thanks Gil. I appreciate it.

It would not happen even at 6M suspect, simply for the fact that a right hand shot with 2nd pairing offense and the ability to play against the leagues top players for that many minutes would fetch a decent price at the deadline.

Usually when you say something like this it is meant to imply that they don't do it terribly. I have the ability to play against top men as well, just very poorly.

As noted above, he actually plays closer to #1 D minutes than #3 D minutes.

He's a decent 2nd pairing defensive D that is in above his head playing top pairing minutes against top competition.

Our top pair was taken apart by the expansion draft in losing Methot, and having a recovering EK...The Bottom pair lost its best defender in Wideman due to a hamstring tear, that left Ceci and Phaneuf as the teams only complete pairing....Yeah it didnt go well

Does the CBA still allow teams to try to bring players to arbitration? Ceci's qualifying offer itself seems like it was too high to begin with for what he brings to the table.

Yeah, I don't believe the last CBA killed that off.
