Ceci is a two way #3-4 miscast as a top shutdown defender.

Why is it that Wideman is often viewed as a puck moving D with a semblance of offensive skillset, yet him and Ceci both had similar production last year despite Wideman getting more PP time and more favourable (in terms of competition/zone starts) ES minutes?

Neither guy is anything special.

Two-way implies that he’s semi capable in both the offensive and defensive zone. Ceci is a black hole offensively, he doesn’t qualify.

He is 95th in D scoring this year, and with 31 teams, you need to be top 93 to be a top 3D in scoring, so he is 1 point outside that. And all the while he has the second lowest D zone starts in the entire league for RHD.

Last year? 98th? Two years ago? 58th. At 22 he was scoring as a top pair D man with less than 20 minutes a game and no PP time.

No he is not an offensive black hole, arguably quite the opposite. What he is doing is playing in situations where there is a minimal chance of scoring and maximum chance to be scored on. And still easily producing top 4 numbers.
