When you remove all context, yeah it sounds dumb. But removing all context is dumb in itself.

It does seem like very low value. But this offseason + injuries = this trade. And the trade is obviously Ryan Murray for a 5th + cap space for whatever the Jackets are planning.
So basically Murray is a cap dump. What other first pairing dmen are cap dumps?

Murray is a 2nd pairing dman not 1st. The 5th should be a 2nd but oh well
2nd pairing only due to injuries and Werenski. Very underated dman, not flash and smart enough to not get beat. Won't be scoring highlight reel goals but you wont be yelling at the TV because he screwed up. Most of the time you wont even notice him out there, very good transition game.

It's not a common situation for high quality players to be levelled by injuries before they turn 30.

Seriously, do you really have to be so obtuse about this? It's not that difficult of a concept.

Just found out about this trade. The first four picks in the 2012 draft have been traded, yet for some reason Griffin Reinhart brought in the best return.

Does anyone know if the Jackets are one of the teams that have an internal cap set by the owner?

Cause all of this could just be because of that rather than preparing to sign a free agent.

I can tell you that the Devils are one of the teams that have an internal cap set by their owners
