How was he against Canada? I missed the first two periods because of ice messing with the dish.

Against Slovakia I thought he was the worst player for the US. Against better competition in Russia and at least in the 3rd against Canada I thought he was possibly the best player on the ice..but could just be bias

He's been very good from game 2 onward. IMO 2nd best defenseman for the US after McAvoy.

They had excellent gap control and position against the Nats and he was part of that. Early in the game he took a massive run at PMD along the wall and it seemed to get some of the Canadians looking around on their breakout more which was already being stymied by the US.

Casey Fitzgerald scored two goals tonight helping Boston College Eagles to a 3-2 win over Boston University Terriers in the Hockey East Playoffs Semifinals.
Fitzgerald first goal - a shorthanded goal - gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead in the second period. The goal was his 64th career college goal, tying him with his coach - Jerry York.
Fitzgerald second goal proved to be the game-winning goal (as the Terriers scored two goals late) just 58 seconds into the third period to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.
That goal - 65th career college goal - moved him past his coach Jerry York and moved him into a tie with Brian Boyle for 26th on the all-time Boston College scoring list.

The win by Boston College has them in the Hockey East Playoffs Championship Final where they will play UMass-Lowell.
The RiverHawks defeated Cal Petersen and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish 5-1 in the other semifinal.
The championship final will be played on Saturday, March 18 - 7:05 pm ET face-off and can been seen on the TV via NESN or online via ESPN3 - Go Boston College!

Edit - Damn! Can a moderator deleted this post (and toomuchsauces post below) - As toomuchsauce said - I got Fitzgeralds mixed-up.

Per USCHO, those two BC goals were scored by Ryan Fitzgerald, not Casey. But, the primary assists on both of those goals went to 2014 6th round pick Chris Brown.

Fitzgerald should play a large role in BC's power play. He worked on his shot on all summer per the excerpt below from a BC preview article on Fitzgerald. BC opens Friday night vs Quinnipiac.
Behind the blue line, the Eagles shouldn’t have much trouble. Scott Savage is gone, but they have Fitzgerald, Kim, and Lohan to fill the gap. And don’t be surprised if Woll carries the team in Thatcher Demko-esque fashion when it matters most.

Scoring, on the other hand, might be a little trickier. Brown leads an attacking unit heavy on sophomore talent—how quickly the underclassmen settle into their expanded roles may determine BC’s future.

That’s why, on offense, York needs Fitzgerald—the only Eagle to earn preseason All-Hockey East honors—to step up now more than ever.

“One thing I really tried working on this summer was shooting more,” Fitzgerald said. “Whether it’s outside in the backyard or on the ice, just ripping 100 pucks or whatever to get my shot better. So I’m coming in with more of a shooting mentality this year, which is something that Coach Brown has wanted me to do for a while now.”

Fitzgerald picked up a PPA on the equalizer, as BC played to 1-1 tie vs Quinnipiac .. his point shot caromed off a defender's foot to the goalscorer.

FIFTH GOAL (3-2-Boston College)-SECOND PERIOD-Casey Fitzgerald-10:26-EVEN STRENGTH.
The Eagles scored three minutes later to make it a one-goal game at 10:26 of the second period. Hutsko made a great play in the trenches, giving chase to a puck in between the circles and wrangling it out to Luke McInnis on the right dot. Casey Fitzgerald skated in from the blue line, accepted McInnis's pass and flung it right past Hawkey in the left circle at 10:26 to close the gap to one, 3-2.

SEVENTH GOAL (4-3-Boston College)-OVERTIME-Casey Fitzgerald-1:09-EVEN STRENGTH.
McPhee continued with his excellent play by making a huge play in Providence's end, breaking up an attempted Friar slapshot and turning it up ice. McPhee streaked through the middle, connecting with Jacob Tortora who deferred back to the middle. McPhee passed up to Christopher Brown and the puck kicked off his stick where Fitzgerald decended into the play and ripped it off the cross bar. The puck came down and just slipped over the goal line to give the Eagles the overtime, 4-3, triumph on the road.

Boston College defenseman Casey Fitzgerald (2016, third round) came through for his team Sunday, scoring a pair of goals, including the game-winner 69 seconds into overtime, to guide the Eagles to a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over Providence.

Fitzgerald notched his first goal of the year at 10:26 of the middle frame when he took a pass in the left circle and buried his shot to cut the Eagles' deficit to 3-2. After the Eagles forced overtime, Fitzgerald quickly ended the session with a bar-down shot to secure the road victory. Fitzgerald, who posted his second career-two goal game (the last one came on October 22, 2016, at Holy Cross), has three points and six shots on goal through the club's first three contests. Monday morning, he was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week.

Fitzgerald's teammate, junior forward Christopher Brown (2014, sixth round), assisted on the overtime tally Sunday for his first point of the season. Brown, one of three team captains along with Fitzgerald, has four shots on goal and an even rating to go along with his helper through three games. Both Fitzgerald and Brown logged minus-2 ratings Friday as Boston College began the week with a 5-2 loss to Wisconsin.

DEFENSIVELY OFFENSIVE -
With Casey Fitzgerald's one point per game average (2-1-3), he is currently tied for 10th scoring amongst all defensemen in college hockey.

FITZ GOT THAT FEELING -
Junior defenseman Casey Fitzgerald notched his second-career two-goal game (at Holy Cross - October 22, 2016), including the overtime winner 69 seconds into the extra session to give the Eagles their first win of the season at Providence on October 15. Fitzgerald's game-winning goal stands as the third of his career as the North Reading, Mass. native accounted for a pair last season. For his big showing, the captain was named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week.

DÉJÀ VU -
The last time Boston College scored an overtime winner was when Casey Fitzgerald's older brother, Ryan, scored the walkoff winner in game three of the Hockey East quarterfinals two years ago against Vermont on March 13, 2016.

Fitzgerald was -2 with an assist, one tripping minor, and 2 SOG in BC's 5-2 loss at SCSU on Friday night. His gifs below start with manning the PP point for an early assist:

Both shots on goal were wristers:

He tripped up Peterson here:

Fitzgerald registered 5 SOG and struck iron once in BC's 3-1 loss to SCSU on Saturday. Not pictured below are three blue-line shots with little-to-no traffic that were easily saved. Here's the ping and two trailer shots:

Lots of undisciplined play early against Providence and so Fitz gets involved and takes a penalty too.
