If he gets the early playing time, he gets paid NHL money. When the Penguins and Flyers were fighting over Eric Hartzell (remember him?), the Penguins got him and left him on the NHL roster so he would get paid. Your contract also comes up sooner, so if you're on a 2-year ELC and you run the first year right now, he already needs a new contract next season, but I think you still have to play (Hartzell didn't).
Yeah. Well aware of that. We've been through this too many times unfortunately.

In your original post, you mentioned money as if they could go above a limit. Its capped by the ELC (obviously). These kids rarely play in the NHL the next year, but burning the first year off is the key. The Flyers are in a position to do it this year if they want. We'll see what they do. I believe the only guy's ELC they burned the first year off at the end of the year was Potulny and he was their own property.
