Ashton while playing for the Marlies last year was a point a game player. When he came up to the Leafs he was delegated to the 4th line getting barely 6 minutes a game. Glad that Spot has been brought up he knows these players and they play for him. All he needs is a chance to play 12 to 14 minutes a game to see if his production goes up.
Sorry he has done nothing to deserve 12-14 minutes a game yet and unless he does he will not get it. He is in tough to make the team out of camp with the signing of Booth it has became even less likely.

He looks like a career AHL player who will get some limited time in the NHL.

Ashton needs to prove he can score in the NHL at the same level as he does in the AHL, but they need to give him a shot on a scoring line if you want to compare apples to apples. You can't expect his performance to be great in a 4th line checking role.

He'll never be as productive in the NHL as he was in the AHL last season. He doesn't need to though, to still be of value in a bottom-6 role.
