I don't know if it would be the worst thing if Soucy/Pateryn became our 3rd pair, even with how well Brodin/Soucy has been doing. As long as the minutes at least stay in the higher teens.

Maybe play Spurge on the 3rd pairing just for conditioning purposes? Just spitballing.

His injury was to his hand. Conditioning wouldn’t have suffered.

Let him ease in slowly also test his hand against game type hits and balance along the boards.

Trade/Sit Hunt. Menell gets sent down so we will probably carry 2 extra dmen until some of the injured come back.

This is what will ultimately happen, imo.

    Lets fast forward

What does Soucy get for his next deal ?

1.I think He will be a group 6 UFA IF he doesn't play in a total of 80 games by the end of season ( I can't see that happening now )

    2. Seeing he's going to be 26 yrs old does he sign a bridge deal or does Wild try to sign him long term ?

    3. If he continues his play what is his worth ?

    4. Who goes on current and future D corp ?

If he is a UFA then why would he sign a bridge deal?

I would think that the Wild would look to trade Pateryn to get rid of his cap hit. Soucy provides size and strength, so we won't miss Pateryn. Seeler isn't as steady as Pateryn, but is faster, and can also provide physicality.

Hunt, Mennell, and Belpedio all have decent or better puck skills, and can play on a 3rd pairing if sheltered with a bigger, stronger partner. Hunt's poor defensive play recently has me worried, though, especially as his offensive production has dried up. I would definitely consider trading him, after seeing Mennell, and having a good idea what Belpedio can bring.

Then the crazy, go for it idea is that you trade one of Brodin or Dumba for legit, top 6, forward talent. Nylander for Dumba, anyone? TML is looking at having re-sign an under performing Barrie, and i'm sure would rather have a Dumba who is signed at a reasonable rate for two more years. EDM would love Dumba, but have no talent to give up...don't talk to me about RNH:thumbd:.

Brodin would be coveted by DRW, NJD, MTL, among others. Would DRW trade their 1st for Brodin? How about NJD? Maybe if we added another, lesser player?

    Because a 2 year x $3M could lead to a ~5 x ~$5M+ deal if things go right.

Even if he plays this way the rest of the year, he's not getting the 2nd deal after this season.

Ok, I just think of a bridge deal being when a player is still under the teams's control. The way i understand it, a Group six UFA is a free to sign with any team, correct?

If he plays 80 games he is not an UFA

1 part of a group 6 UFA is he has to be 25 yrs old with 3 years of service ( at least 1 game in NHL or AHL while on a NHL contract ) and play less than 80 games

Soucy would fall under this I think if he doesn't hit the 80 game mark

He's on track to play 82 games. More, if we make the playoffs. Wonder if the GM tells Bruce to "rest' him a couple of games? Would be a big deal to still have him under team control.

I've been disappointed with his play with Pateryn. Doesn't seem to be the same player. I blame Pateryn , though, who has looked very pedestrian since his return.

I agree with the Pateryn part. I'm hoping it's just Pateryn needing more time to get into game shape mentally and physically.

Ehh...his last game was not so hot. I've thought that Pateryn has been decent, kind of a mixed bag. I prefer him to Hunt. Still think that Soucy is a middle pairing guy. It's not exactly shocking that he doesn't look as good playing with Pateryn (or Hunt) as he does with Brodin. It's going from the Penthouse to the Outhouse.

I disagree that he has a lack of skill in his game. As a big guy, he looks clumsy, but i find him quite effective in "skill" situations. He's just not the prototypical 5'11", stickhandle a million times/sec, jitterbugging type player.

Larry Robinson looked goofy out there, too, but he got the job done.

Some of these national writers make lazy, uninformed comments. I tend to dismiss a lot of what they say.

According to the Russo podcast, if Soucy doesn't play 18 more games for the Wild by the end of the year... (so not happening), he'll be a UFA. I wonder if he'll leave now. His contract is probably going to cost more now either way.

Do you see any other team willing to overpay for him though? I forget who posted it, but something like a 12-14m 4yr deal was brought up.

Sounds like he wasn't even close to returning from injury either.... anyone know exactly what happened? I think he has "upper body injury" from trying to hit someone or something?
