How to ruin a franchise quarterback 101.

1. Draft franchise qb
2. What's a LT?
3. If he's hurt, **** it.
4. Repeated hits to the head? I'll allow it.
5. Rush him back after injury to save your job.

Bonus point: **** on said qb who has only broke records like crazy and taken you to the Superbowl .

This is really really really really really disappointing.

Cam Newton is the best player in Carolina Panthers history. He may not end up having the best career, but he is the most valuable player they've ever had and only Keuchly comes close at all.

To **** that up mid-stream by just throwing the guy out there to be physcially torn to pieces is just... man, it can take a generation to recover from something like that. If they get out of this without fully imploding it'll be by dumb luck.

Ok, so this is all very interesting

I’ve never bought into a narrative that an organization would willingly play a style (and draft/develop/or neglect certain positions) that would effectively shorten a franchise QB’s shelf life. It simply makes no sense. The quarterback is your moneymaker. And that is why I don’t believe Ron Rivera is responsible for “ruining” Cam Newton.

I watch a lot of Seahawks games, and they’ve never had a good offensive line. Most times, it’s been downright awful. Way worse than the Panthers. Russell Wilson runs for his life, but he has tremendous “pressure” instincts in the pocket, AND he knows how to avoid hits and definitely doesn’t seek out contact like Cam used to do. He slides. He runs away from defenders, probably leading to shorter overall runs, but hey, self preservation.

Cam just did it wrong for too long. And by wrong, I mean that that style cannot last in the NFL. He carved out an MVP season, and he was unreal that season, but he HAS to run to be among the better quarterbacks in the league. When he ran and was healthy, he definitely was. When the injuries started to mount, he definitely wasn’t.

He’ll never be a strictly pocket guy. Or not a successful, strictly pocket guy.

There's a reason Wilson doesn't/didn't seek out contact like Cam, and it's because he can't as one of the smallest QBs of the modern era.

As for your OL comments, I'm not sure how you can quantify whose OL is worse. The Seahawks certainly isn't "much worse". Panthers highest pick spent on an OL came just this year with Little in the 2nd round. For all the other drafts, the highest picks were Turner in the 3rd and guys like Kugbila and Williams in the 4th. The Panthers have comically failed to draft or sign a competent OL to put around Newton, there's no argument otherwise. They lucked into some decent UDFAs but they still have never made it a priority to protect him and they are now paying for it. It's definitely more on Nippleshorts, Hurney and Rivera than it is on Newton.

But he still sought out contact. Yes, he’s enormous. But time and again, it’s proven that that doesn’t last.

That’s on him and him alone. It’s fun/amazing to watch when it happens and he’s not injured...but it inevitably adds up and leads to a shorter career than necessary. It’s just who he was. And that’s ok. But it was never going to be a “play into his mid to late 30s” with that style.

And, now he’s changed. And he’s clearly not even close to the same effectiveness without the running.

Bucs competing pretty hard makes me a feel a bit better about the loss but it just means one more team to compete for the division. Falcons look horrid though.

Good grief he probably just won the game with that crazy play

Rofl

He posterized JJ Watt.

Allen with the Houdini.
Then a First down pass.

Should have passed play action on 2nd
