Sounds like about 23 million that can be spent elsewhere in that case
That's exactly how I look at it. For me, it isn't that the shiny new toy is more fun to play with than the old one. Cam has had some successful time, but injuries have taken that part of his game away. He's never been an accurate pocket passer. If his body won't allow him to be the running quarterback, he just isn't worth $23M any more. Allen may not be the long term answer, but over the last calendar year, he's given the team a better chance to win than Newton has.

Panthers after a bye week against a team that honestly isn't that good on offense in the 49ers who could only put up 9 on the Skins last week despite getting a defense shutout effort last week. Rivera is pretty terrible after a bye a big reason why they looked so terrible after bye weeks and the SB.

Is Rivera finally fired after this season the defense is too talented to give up 51 to a mediocre offense in the 49ers who are mainly carried by their D and we had a bye week to prepare for a team that scored 9 against the Skins last week what a joke:mad::mad::mad:

You clearly didn't see the Washington game last week if you keep saying this.

I didn't see a game where the 49ers didn't score a single TD and could hardly run the ball? Nice Idc what wind conditions there were the defense couldn't stop the run today at all and that has nothing to do with wind.

Let’s be real, though. Allen was not and will not be the solution. He overperformed by looking like a normal QB for a few games, but the fundamental issues that hindered Cam are still there. If the line doesn’t block and receivers don’t catch, there’s not a whole lot your QB can do to win the game. Allen could be a true #1 that somehow got missed all along, and he’s still not winning a game like this one. And neither is Cam. Because it’s not on the QB.

Come on you know the QB plays D and opens holes for the QB to throw through.

The Panthers have identified a good backup/developmental QB in Allen.

They should let Newton recover until his foot is 100%.
When Newton is 100% he should be back in there to demonstrate why, at 100%, he's still significantly better than Allen.

While it's almost certain they weren't winning that game, Newton in god mode is about the only shot the Panthers had Sunday. The good news is they have a QB who can win games while Cam recovers. But once healthy, he's the best (remote) shot this team has at winning this type of game.

After camp, many, myself among them, questioned whether Allen or Grier were capable as NFL QBs at all, and whether keeping two quarterbacks who were both developmental projects was the right decision over a prospect and a seasoned backup.

Allen proved to be a capable backup. He generally played low risk, competent football. He didn't take over games, but he executed schemes well. Which is fine. But Cam, when not playing with his leg in a plaster cast, creates plays out of nothing, extends drives, and wins games the team has no right to win. We haven't seen healthy Cam in a while. I'm glad that he's getting healed up, and the Panthers are good enough that with a competent but okay backup QB, we've gone 4-1. I have plenty of confidence with Allen starting another game if he needs to. But Cam is a special player if he gets his mobility back, and this team could be a very good one with him playing. Superbowl quality? I'm not sure about that after yesterday. The 49ers sure as hell looked Superbowl quality, and we looked hapless on both sides of the ball.

Allen is better than Cam at 30%. But is he better than Cam at 90%? Not a chance.

Really wish we'd use some high picks on the Oline.

I'm trying to remember if the Panthers have ever had a good o-line. It feels like there were maybe a couple of seasons in there somewhere. But it truly seems like every single year it's "ah well, they had a good RB and the QB played over his head but you're not gonna do much with that front 5"
