Looks better, but so has the D. But at least Price isn't losing his net so much, then again maybe the D is limiting quality chances. Kind of feel like I'm debating myself:dunce:
The difference is that he hasn't made the unforced errors he was making earlier in the year.

D has improved but there have still been games where he's had to make some crazy saves. At least now he's not giving up clunkers. That seems to have been fixed.

Price has had these stretches throughout his career and always bounced back from them...when he's calm and the D in front of him is solid, he's back to being Price...

More then the soft goal or two a game, technique has been the biggest difference the last 3-4 games. He’s squaring up shooters and not biting first as opposed to instantly dropping into the butterfly and just trying to react. His puck tracking has been worlds better as well.

No one ever said that Price has been garbage his whole career. This is just baiting. I think everyone agrees that he was really dominant from 2013-2017, which led to his contract. I think it is the $10.5M that triggers so many people. At that price, you expect a game changer and a franchise player, and in the last 4 years, Price has been below the average compared to other starter goalies.
Only if you look at ONE number and ignore the shots he's faced.

2018 was a horrible year. We brought in Alzner and Weber was hurt for the first part and then went down all year. We led the league in injuries and Price himself missed a good chunk of the year. That was a nightmare season.

The following year he played better but his numbers were terrible to start the year. Then Weber came back around game 15 and he was something like .925 the rest of the way. That was a great year despite him only being .918.

As for last year, he did a lot better than you think he did. He was behind one of the worst defenses in the league and put up strong relative numbers.

Carey Price Had an Amazing Season with the Montreal Canadiens.

This year has been a different story. The team has been inconsistent in front of him but he has let in goals he shouldn't have. I don't know if it was the red pads or what but the moment he took them off it looks like he's gone back to normal.

The fact of the matter is though that if Petry or Weber get hurt he's going to tank. We just don't have talent on the left side to compensate for that. Edmunson is doing well with Petry but his numbers would tank without him.

Those clunkers as you put it, are unforgivable bantam level garbage. Don't know where his head was at,but hopefully he has that fixed now. He,as most goalies rely on position more than goalies of the past that relied on reflexes and hand eye coordination, IE making a save rather than stopping the puck.

No excuses for some of the goals he gave up this year. It happens occasionally and that's okay. But it was becoming a regular occurrence. If he can stay away from those dumb mistakes, his numbers will improve significantly.

The fact he isn't undefeated in four consecutive 1 goal against outings tells you exactly how much it isn't his fault the team collapsed.
The story over the past 7-8 seasons....
He has some moments where he lets a softie in, and we never can pick him up....he has always been the least of our worries, no matter what the haters say.

When you're a workhorse, you need repetitions.. they were overplaying Allen early and not letting Price to get into a groove.

Allen should get the back-to-back games and then games against Vancouver or Ottawa when we have a dense week. Let Price handle everything else.

Price was terrific last year in the Playoff
Started the season with a 4-0-2 record with 4 games above 92%
Then he had a bad stretch of 6 games where he only had one good game.
Now he's on a terrific strecth of 6 games where he put up next to 95%

Yet that bad stretch of 6 games was all it took for some medias and fans to jump on Price......disregarding completely the rest

I actually had a look at his numbers a week or two ago because people were shitting on him. His really bad season was 2017-18, but 2018-2019 (at .918) was actually really solid in context. I also like to point out that he played 66 games, and the next goalie with a .918 SV% when ordered by game played is Pekka Rinne with 56 (HM Andersen with .917 at 60 games, he's got a lot of unwarranted hate too). Also most TOI in the league, 3rd most shot against.

And 0.918 was also 12th in the league for goalies with more than 40 games played (which I consider starters).

From the games I saw, 2019-2020 he was really good, but the defense let so many quality chances that there was no way to have good stats. Utilization-wise it was a similar story (most TOI by a wide margin, most GP, 2nd most shot against). Compare his numbers to his backups and there's really no better context.

Bottom line is that he still played great hockey in general, but unlike a star forward goalie stats are not additive, so it's gonna be a lot tougher to look good on a bad team without seeing him play first-hand.
