Price between 2017/18 and 2019/20 (min. 50 GP):
  • .910 sv% (35th)
  • 2.77 GAA (29th)
  • -4.73 GSAA (37th)
  • 0.810 HDSV% (37th)
This season (min. 100 mins played):
  • 0.888 sv% (56th)
  • 3.13 GAA (48th
  • -6.76 GSAA (61st of 65)
  • 0.823 HDSV% (25th)
These numbers suggest that Price has been trending downwards for over 3 years, and his performance this season doesn't inspire confidence that he can turn it around.

Even at 50% retained, would anyone want to acquire a goalie with the numbers above and a $5.25m caphit for another 5 seasons until Price is 39?

I think for starters a first-round pick, Tyson Jost and Grubauer/Francouz+

I think Colorado needs a superstar goaltender in order to be contenders.

Aren't you a Jets fan?

I mean it makes sense to want to cripple the Avs from a Jets POV but how about we include your team in the terrible trade offers?

How about Graves for Dubois?
Probably more fair than Jost, Grubauer + 1st for Price.
Actually way better...

This is a bit of a strange proposal.
Gibson is the best goalie in the NHL.
Price is a cap dump.
The two have very little in common.

How about Miller for a mid-round/conditional pick IF he wants to chase a Cup? 4th round pick, becomes 3rd if Miller plays half the playoff game or Avs win the Cup, becomes a 2nd if Miller plays half the games AND Avs win the Cup.

What that hell is this garbage.

Gibson is an elite NHL goalie. He’d cost way more than Jost and an expiring Grubs.

Price is a massively overpaid and underperforming goalie and his contract is decidedly negative in value.

I wouldn’t take Price with Suzuki and Romanov attached.

You can have Price. In reality if he didn't have an NMC and could be put on waivers, he'd clear. Nobody is touching that contract with a 10 foot pole sadly. Wish he'd be gone already.

With this proposal you just got kicked and dragged outta Colorado...

Price at 50% + 1st 2021 is worth a 6th 2028, maybe. He has been that bad and he has 5 more years on his contract...
He's been bad for 10 games. He was very good in the playins / playoffs not too long ago. People are jumping de gun so quick. There's no rush for the Habs to move him. Unfortunately they will live or die with him for the next few years

Quite literally would not take Carey Price for free.

I'd probably pay up for Gibson. But Grubauer had the 3rd best numbers in the league among goalies right now behind only Fleury and Vasilievsky.

Goaltending, at least from the starter perspective is not a problem in Denver at all right now.

What we need desperately is a backup goalie that can lighten the load for Grubauer and not make those games feel like an auto loss.

Idiotic from a hockey perspective, and insulting as a user of this site. This isn't your facebook page. Read before posting. This has been done to death and then some. Gibson/Price to Colorado should be locked and removed instantly with at least a 24 hour ban. At least.

We have a backup problem, not a goalie problem. Gru has been great. If we replace Gru, we’ve still got Miska back there giving us a .890 on the starter’s night off.

Sakic is likely adding a backup at the TDL. With the looming expansion draft, there will be plenty of cheap options.

Price at 50% + 1st 2021 is worth a 6th 2028, maybe.

This is a classic HFBoards take. Price at 5.25m would be on the cheaper half of all starters, with many other cheaper starters getting raises soon (Andersen, Binnington, Hart). He has been bad for stretches this season but he still has moments; he's still Carey Price, he's just got a boat-anchor deal at 10.5

You think the Habs would ALSO add their 1st to get a 6th back almost a decade later? Legitimately may be the dumbest post I have read on these boards ever.

Sad to see Price playing like he is now......
You mean common to see Price playing this way. He’s been a below average goalie for several years now. A brief hot streak here or there doesn’t change his clear trajectory as an albatross of a contact the likes of which few contacts are worse in the entire NHL.

Price's numbers the last 4 years aren't starter calibre and even at 50% retained it's doubtful whether any GM would want to acquire him.

Price between 2017/18 and 2019/20 (min. 50 GP):
  • .910 sv% (35th)
  • 2.77 GAA (29th)
  • -4.73 GSAA (37th)
  • 0.810 HDSV% (37th)
This season (min. 100 mins played):
  • 0.888 sv% (56th)
  • 3.13 GAA (48th
  • -6.76 GSAA (61st of 65)
  • 0.823 HDSV% (25th)

Even at 50% retained, would anyone want to acquire a goalie with the numbers above and a $5.25m caphit for another 5 seasons until Price is 39, knowing that he's likely only going to decline further due to age?

Last year, there were only 11 goalies that had a cap hit over $5.25m among with 45 goalies who started 30+ games. Only 3 of those 11 goalies finished in the top 20 in SV%. Price was not one of them.
