Fabbri horse-collared Fleury going around him at the blue line. Hadyn caught the number and went after him. I think Fabbri hitting Petr just made Fleury's decision easier, but he was coming in guns blazing even before Mrazek got hit.

I'm happy for the guy. He's clearly earning some trust. I still think he's crap with the puck, but he's learning how to work around that. Plus, I'm not sure we have *anyone* right now who can make a clean zone exit, so I'm not sure why I'd continue to pick on Fleury.

I'm sure the interaction at the blue line factored into it, but I also think it was pretty obvious Fabbri was lining up to go after Mrazek, and Fleury saw that coming before the contact.

Was it wise of Mrazek to move over and stand his ground? Absolutely not, but I would say that wise is a rarely used descriptor about Mrazek mid-game, especially vs a team he has history with like Detroit.

Having a goalie that can actually catch a puck is a real benefit. I don’t know that over ever seen as drastic of a shift from AHL goalie to obvious NHL goalie. Every shot that Petr caught or absorbed felt so foreign after the last few weeks.

In the expansion draft, protecting 7F/3D is an option, but you can also choose to protect 5F/5D. I have a feeling we may do exactly that. The NYI were the only team that chose that route for the VGK draft. Everyone else chose 7/3.

haydn had to figure out what he was supposed to be, because that expectation was never clearly defined for him. it's not a secret that the organizational strategies under the previous regime weren't incredibly helpful for young players. i think fleury's development was a rudderless ship because he was a tweener in the worst possible way. not offensively gifted enough to be a point producer and not physical or tidy enough in his own zone to be a defensive specialist. plus, you could feel how tight he was puckered when he had to touch the puck. there was too much pulse. too much awareness of pressure.

when cale came into the league and started throwing his body around and blocking shots, he made the habs out of camp despite some pretty obvious limitations in other areas. haydn has a more traditional skillset, yet was struggling to establish a spot. once it started to become clear to him that the path they wanted him to take was to become a strong skating puck mover with an edge, his game took off. forget about draft position, because he's never going to justify that pick, but really accepting what you are and what your job is supposed to be can be liberating. his level of buy in is off the charts right now and he's just out there trying to play some quiet minutes. not trying to do too much in any one facet of his game and finishing his checks with a bit more enthusiasm. his approach with the puck has matured also. he's calmed down enough to see his breakout options and is making the logical first pass. that's basically all that is required of him offensively. tripp was dead on in my opinion when he stated that fleury was less afraid of making a mistake now. it checks out because i remember how assertive he looked during the calder cup run last season and how out of place he looked in a good way and wondering what could make that click over because it was obvious that the mental game needed some attention if his natural skill played that well down there. he's grabbing an opportunity.

100% and as I mentioned recently, hopefully some take our NHL goalies less for granted. Forsberg seemed to be somewhat good at placing his rebounds, but still gave up plenty. Ned just seems like a spaz that can't catch or absorb anything. An NHL goalie made a huge difference in that respect.

Cool we can throw him a going away party to thank him for recovering some value.

He can be our next Jeff Skinner. Jesus, I just happened to see Jeff's stats of the season:
5914923-22
[TBODY] [/TBODY]
I haven't had any eye test for him this season, but I think I 've seen enough earlier. And with that, jesus, that sucks with 9M cap hit.

Edit: until 2027 :DD

There are so many Skinner analogies that it's not even funny. The fact is, that he has only been in the + category ONCE in his entire career. His rookie year. 10 years into his career he is nothing more than a liability. He might have the literal worst contract in the NHL for his owners. That's borderline Darling level bs there.

Checked the condensed game.

THAT'S MRÁZEK I WANT TO SEE. STOIC, EFFECTIVE, YET ABSOLUTELY RECKLESS.

He played a good game, but still just makes me uneasy from play to play. I think someone compared him to a yo yo, so at least he had the string attached last night. Overall a very solid performance. If we can get that out of him the rest of the way we could make some noise.

Kids got a game breaking talent, but when he's cold, and doing nothing defensively he's as good as useless.

He could do that, sure. But there were a lot of little bits of that interview that demonstrate how he'd be a really good coach too. Talking about when you're in the slot, you can't think, you're just trying to get it on net- great thing to beat into the heads of players. The attention he paid not just to Geekie's release, but how he's not saying much in the dressing room yet and how he needs to get a better sense of his personality, with the implication being that he's trying to find a way to get Geekie integrated into the group socially, not just as a player. Actively thinking about how to get Svech to just relax and let his talent take over. That's how you manage people. He'd make a stellar manager in any field. He's the boss you run through walls for no matter how boring the job.

I've still never found that boss....

That chic new thing is to put the feces of a healthy person into an unhealthy person in order to heal their gut microbiome. Could that be what he is referring to?
... I understood that mainly he catches pucks.

But maybe he will clarify. Good that he got twitter now, we can ask him.

"Tripp, was you talking of pucks, or shit transplant?"
