Can we all agree that it's madness the 2015 Winter Classic Jersey won the jersey tournament the Caps social media team was running for the past few weeks. IIRC people weren't fond of them when they were released

Both Backstrom and Hagelin are in Sweden so pretty sure AJF could come as well if they really want him to

They've grown on me a little bit and I don't hate them like I used to but yeah, no chance they should have gotten a bye in that bracket or won any of the rounds they did. The old white alternates, 2018 stadium series jerseys, and current red alternates -- all jerseys they beat -- are much better.

Backstrom's in Valbo (not at all densely populated), so the risk there isn't all that great. No issues with bringing him back.

Stockholm is the high risk area. Hagelin is in a suburb of Stockholm, so I suppose he could get swept up in it.

These have been the best jerseys the team have ever wore for a while, and the historical context of them post-2018 has only cemented that further

Firstly teams are allowed only one alternate. They could just change their uni but I see no chance of that. Leonsis told me he was against the old red image because it represented failure. Now that image represents a champion and one of the best franchises in the league. That black, lets look like Pittsburgh, jersey is the worst. The Capitals are just not a black image team. My only issue with the screaming eagle stuff is that it was there a match to the Wizards who remain a joke. That soft blue has never been a winner.

Hey, if that's what you want, that's fine. I am telling you why I don't like it. I don't like alternative uniforms that aren't instantly recognizable as the team wearing them. I think the soft blue and black stuff represents uphappy times

Has there been any type of plan presented for players that went home to Europe or Canada? I’d assume they would all be asked to come back early to quarantine but I haven’t seen anything that really goes into what the specific plan actually is

The current alternates should have been the winner. Big fan of those

If they brought back the screaming eagle I would buy one so hard

Funny how we see things so differently. I think these jerseys are completely awful and among the worst jerseys in the NHL, minus the obvious great memories in them. The piping across the chest and arms as well as on the bottom of the jersey is total trash (I loathe piping on jerseys) as are the random rectangles of color up the sides and across the sleeves. They could be great because the pants and the socks are smart contrasts with the jersey and the logos look clean but I can't stand these jerseys as currently constructed. This thing looks like abstract act with all of the random colors, shapes, and lines.

If they wanted to ditch those and make these the road whites, I wouldn't be against it. [IMG]

I get the feeling the Nats aren't going to wear these this season which I don't get at all. [IMG]

How about a retro logo with updated colors? Maybe the screaming eagle with red white and blue.

The road whites, and to a lesser extent the home reds, are just so clean. They look slick and professional. Much better than the cartoonish look of the retro jerseys, which have many of the worst tendencies of 1970s jerseys.

It's funny how the takes on this vary almost as much as peoples' tastes because the unhappy times are exactly why I want to see it come back. The visuals surrounding the Then and Now, Old Stars vs. This Batch, Young Ovechkin vs. Old, Dark Days vs. Champions, that type of thing. Seeing it makes you realize how long it's been and how far we've come, take a year or two to do something different (even if it's technically something they already did once).

I think no Cup would change things, but for me this isn't a painful reminder anymore. Move some merchandise, embrace history, be colorful, alternates come and go so I'm not saying they should reinvent the wheel every other year like you see in the Premier League or anything but if it's already in the history dip into it.

Oh it's epic? Even though it clashes with the color of the jerseys in the stands huh?

It does. In those cases those were throwback unis of value. In lesser cases it was just a vehicle to sell merch. Pretty sure the Whalers thing was to sell merch. That said, if I was a secondary fan and that was my game for the year, I would be totally confused

I think the best way to draw fans is to give them “options to attract”. That’s all these other jerseys are..... curmudgeonly mindset or not.

Options to attract? Options to buy. If you have a classic uniform that doesn't change your team misses out on all the revenue that other teams get from changing unis on the regular

The color scheme is on point for sure and I agree the template is very clean and crisp but I think the jersey could be improved. I really hate piping and I don't like random blobs and shapes of color just to add color.

But man I do not understand how you don't like these. The colors are so sharp and they contrast perfectly with the ice. I think they'd be even better without the stars above the logo and I'd probably take the stars off the pants too if they used them full time but I'd keep the stars on the sleeves. The white shoulder pads along with the white and blue stripes on the bottom of the jersey are perfection.

Yes. Options to attract fans. I’m sure you know kids choose teams (as do some adults) based on a teams uni’s? So the more options you present, the better. IMO
