This is great!! The draft pick of a first-round loss without all the drama and heartache!
Go Caps!
Go Caps!
Of Carlson's foot
I'd like to see him in a different sweater
Honestly wouldn't mind seeing 90, 83, 52, 4, 17, and/or 21 move on.
Good people, years of meritorious service from several of them. But diminishing effectiveness and, in the case of 52 and 21, at a hefty price, too.
20 heated up late, but for a Leader of Men, he doesn't seem all that well liked by his own teammates. Plus, on the PP, he's a Shankapotamous.
On the other hand, i would love to see 84 back for Caps, and I'm excited about Orlov, Kuznetsov and Wilson.
I actually like Carrick, too, though i seem to be in the minority.
Riley Barber ... any chance he'll come out early? He looks promising down the line.
Oh wow, JoeB just incorrectly called the Green Line the Gang Green Line.
Yay for worsening draft position!!!
Purrutu is one I was sorry to say goodbye to. I'll add Boyd Gordon and Eric Belanger to that list, and, way back when, Andrew Brunette. That guy still had a lot of goals and assists in him when we parted ways.
I don't miss Semin. Nor do i miss Bradley or Hendricks. Warriors, to be sure, or at least bleeders, but I am glad we aren't the ones who decided to pay Wagon $3 mill, or whatever it was.
Scott Stevens, there was a guy who would have been worth almost any price to keep.
Its pretty pathetic. Blames the goalie for taking the shot on a 2-on-1 and misattributes a rebound to him.
Gordon couldn't win a board battle if he played midget
He was aces at PK and face-offs, wasn't he? That's what I remember about him. And he seems to keep getting hired elsewhere.
Belanger seemed like a quality guy, quality player, the kind of guy who would reduce the number of 2-goal leads blown in the 3rd period. I also appreciated him digging out his own fractured teeth on the bench.
I don't know, it just seemed like he didn't get a chance here, and that GMGM jacked him during the offseason by leading him to believe he would stick around and that he should put down roots, and then didn't sign him after all.
But I may be conflating this with some other player from the distant past. My memory ain't what it used to be.
Johansson has 4 more primary assists than Backstrom this season.
Gordon couldn't win a board battle if he played midget, Belanger was meh. Andrew Brunette we gave up on too soon. Should have protected him. Semin...yeah I miss. Wasted wasted wasted...every time I hear his name. Can't believe we threw an asset like that away...
Bras bleh, Hendo I miss, dearly... Stevens...lol that's a whole big argument.
He turned into Gonchar and Witt. Would Scotty have won us the cup in 98? That's the only valid question about that whole deal IMO.
Who knows?
Backstrom is a PPG player and has done reasonably well this year.
The system we play is not geared towards creative players like Backstrom and Ovechkin. I think that much has been made apparent. At least not at ES.
Guys like MJ, Backstrom and Ovie have fed off the PP b/c they have been handcuffed at ES by toasted Oates.
Backstrom has 10 goals and 23 assists at ES this year. His line has been a massive defensive liability all year and he should share some of that blame for his lazy play. Can't totally blame Oates for that.
Our entire team has been miserable at ES outside of 1 line. I'm not going to point the finger at Backstrom or any other player.
When guys like Alzner, Brouwer, Backstrom and Ovechkin have made public comments that allude to questionable coaching I think its clear where the problem lies here.
Our team under Hanlon sucked something fierce in 07-08. He played a very conservative trap.
Bruce took over and it was night and day. Suddenly we were GOOD! With the EXACT same players....
Coaching makes a huge difference. Maybe Oates isn't a bad coach...but for THIS roster he is not a good one. We are built for attack and we have done it well in the past.
Green is meant to rush the puck and generate offense.
How did Green look last night? I missed the game.
