Yeah, cause remember all those other legends who had 5 to 7 seasons of flat high end performance, me neither! Last time I checked, Ovy is a human, not a cyborg and humans slow down, especially late 30s athletes.

Brett Hull had 3 30 goal seasons post 35. Ovechkin is better than Hull.

35 and up Selanne scored 200+ goals. Ovechkin is better and healthier than Selanne.

Unless there's plans to make Adam Oates the head coach of the Capitals again I would say it's safe that Alex will be worth every penny once again.

Not sure I would give him 5 years at that price tag. guys usually fall off pretty hard in their late 30's. Look at jumbo, marleau, kovalchuk.
Ovechkin is better but what if he is only a 30g/50pt guy making 10 with 3 years left?

You say thank you and let him ride. He won't be stapled to the first line forever (maybe PP1, with that shot) but when that time comes you let him figure out what he wants to do and thank him for everything.

He's one of the few players in this league actually worth a "thank you contract"

Plus even a broken down Ovie could probably still pot 30 goals

Ovie signing for 10M, a marginal increase on hit current hit for a contract signed long ago when the cap was much lower, is a nice precident for the Pens if/when they need to re-up Malkin and Letang on shorter deals.

5 years 50 million at 35? that's not a good idea

all time NHL goal leaders at age 30+

2010-2020: Ovechkin(30,32,33,34)
2000-2010: nobody
1990-2000: Lemieux(30)
1980-1990: nobody
1970-1980: Esposito(30,31,32)
1960-1970: Hull(30), Howe(34)
1950-1960: Richard(32,33)
1940-1950: Abel(30)
1930-1940: Aurie(31), Cook(36)
1920-1930: Denneny(32)
1910-1920: Lalonde(31)

Ovechkin is the only one to lead the league in goal scoring at age 30+ in the past 45 years other than Lemieux who did it once at the age of 30,he's also the only one in the history of the league to do it 4 times(and the only others who have done it more than once are Esposito(who also happened to be playing with a prime Bobby Orr), and Maurice Richard)

now factor in his extremely high durability as well and I see no reason he can't win a couple more Rockets,he's won it 7 of the last 8 seasons after all
