No. This assumes that Djoos is playing. One of Bowey, Ness or Chorney plays when the group is healthy.

How far behind in the playoff race are you willing to go to get them game reps? With Niskanen out for 10 or 20 games how are we so sure that the playoffs are in the bag?

Bowey will have to play in the 10-20 games Niskanen will miss. After that, I'm confident enough in our defense with Niskanen to keep both rookies in the lineup. The odd man out should be Ness in all cases.

No. This assumes that Djoos is playing. One of Bowey, Ness or Chorney plays when the group is healthy.

But it also attaches a positive value to one choice and a negative to the other inherently. Winning with Bowey is not considered an option, nor is losing with Chorney. All four outcomes are entirely possible and should be weighed when making a personnel decision.

Really our best play is the prospects develop a lot over the season. If this is the play we get all season we are in trouble.

Trotz just said something cryptic about Chorney the first of the games he scratched. That he continues to miss suggests there is more to it than meets the eye.
Or a rough patch and a reset are just a rough patch and a reset.

Flyers home opener and they were um, flying ;)
They skated hard, and Voracek/Giroux/Cout completely dominated
wasn't expecting much from WSH on the 3 out of 4/back-to-back, and got less than that
oh well, until we start playing like crap consistently I'll get concerned, way too early for the feigned internet outrage

Hope Bowey can reset for Tues. and Voracek mails him his jock back by then

Apparently the key to not losing is playing Taylor Chorney, whew thank god he's on our team and we had Dr. Tex derive the Chorney-Victory Equation so early into the season. 2017 cup here we come!

Well you can't say txpd is wrong, so far we are 2-0-1 with Chorney and 0-1-0 with Bowey. And unlike EFK, I'm not so sure about the playoffs this year.

Or a rough patch and a reset are just a rough patch and a reset.

So, his rough patch is so rough that after 2 good seasons as a reliable 7 he suddenly drops from 6 to 8? If it were merely a rough patch, you would expect that after a couple of scratches he would return to the lineup after a significant injury in the unit. At least I would. This if the rough patch is the condition of his game. But that's just my read.

So instead of two games it has become three. Big deal. We can't really try to make logical deductions on their behalf when Ness has been used the way he has.

The other issue they're facing is their attempt to always have at least one of Orlov, Carlson and Orpik on the ice at all times via mixing up the pairs. It makes it even harder to maximize confidence and chemistry among the pairs. Four of the next six to close out the month are on the road so they're probably not going to get away from that any time soon. Playing in sheer survival mode for the next nine games at least probably won't result in accelerated progression among their depth options. It's a bit of a vicious circle unless a player manages to be a spotless quick study somehow. Djoos shows some signs of maybe being one but Bowey has needed time at new levels generally. We'll see if he gets that over known likely sub-replacement level options.

The defense pairings definitely have been mixed up. Last game was a gong show. There was no chemistry in our defense core. I think we need our prospects to play a lot of. If they are going to developed they need playing time at the NHL level. It is unfortunate that the Caps didn't get Bowey or Djoos in the lineup last season for a few games. And the veterans need to play better to help the youngsters along.
