His 700th goal will likely become an afterthought just for the fact that he’s probably going to score a shit ton of more goals. Starting to get up there in age but gotta figure he’s definitely a lock for at least 800 at this point.

No question but 700 is a nice round number as opposed to 701, 702, and so forth.

If(or when) he gets to 800, I hope it's against some OTHER team. (though I do hope his team loses THAT game, too)

I'd rather have Gallant.

I’m really not a fan of having team icons as part of our coaching staff/management. Let’s just hire the best possible candidate with NHL experience.

Gerard Gallant and Jon Cooper (if made available of course) would be at the top of my list.

Speaking of Cooper, I'm going to enjoy watching Pickles and the Bolts put a beating on the Yotes(Hall) tonight.

What?

Its not forever bittersweet because its history and people will remember his 700th goal, not that the Devils won a meaningless game...

It's only meaningful history if you care. Much like Jagrs 700th when he scored it for us that I didn't care about, I don't care about Ovi's 700th either.

Well it's meaningful now, but not as much so as when he eventually gets to 800, perhaps ties/breaks Gretzky, then 900.

I would have given him an ovation if I was there though, no issue with that.

Make no mistake.

Getting the 800th goal, where only TWO people(Gretzky and Howe) have accomplished that, will be a big deal.

But I hope when it happens, it won't be against us.

I'm just glad that the Devils were able to ruin his 700th goal moment by beating his team IN REGULATION(no points). :joker::joker::joker:

You are missing the point...

People who care will remember the goal, a freaking lowly, meaningless Devil win doesn’t erase that let alone ‘ruin’ it. Its a dumb concept by glen. Im sure Cap fans won’t remember this because OMG THE DEVILS WON...

Some of you are nicer than me lol I hated everyone jumping on the ice like that and I wouldn't have given him an ovation either.

I'm very happy the Devils took the win in regulation at least.

Imagine finding things to be upset about it in the world we already live in.

Dude is in amazing hockey player. We're lucky to watch him and the game will miss him when he's gone.

In this case Stevens is a good candidate for the defense and has experience.

also 700 is an amazing milestone that only 8 people have done in all of history i felt privileged to be there and have no problem with them jumping on the ice to celebrate with him. i’m glad the devils acknowledged it in such a classy way too

Me too.. So happy Devils got that hard earned goal to seal it. Thanks Palms for the gritty crease positioning!

I think its a great accomplishment, but hard to root for ovi/caps in own arena even after he broke 700. We just gave up tying goal, and considering he had gotten it after a caps player was on top of blackwood for some time soon before that goal. I was kind of upset lol.

Anyway like the fight they had to close it out...

I’ve got no problem with the team acknowledging the goal at the arena. It’s a very rare milestone so it should be recognized. I’m more annoyed at the broadcast than anything. You gotta figure that if you’re a Devils fan watching this team at this point in this lost season, you’re most likely a pretty committed fan and don’t care to hear your home commentator reaching climax while calling a goal for the opposing team lol. National telecast, understandable. Maybe it’s just me, whatever. Probably doesn’t help that Steve and Daneyko get on my nerves for other things to begin with.

Jagr got his 700th right before the trade deadline too but the only reason I even remember that is because I went to the game out in Nassau because there were heavy rumors of trading Marty that year and he was starting that night and I didn't want to possibly miss his last game in goal for the Devils.

I didn't care for it either, saw quite a few people complaining about that one too. Steve just wanted to get his call used on some highlight reels lol
