Shortridge whom didn’t play as many games but had much better stats just signed a contract starting next season with sj. Has an ATO to play for their sj ahl affiliate for this season. Wonder why we continually sign lesser players to contracts starting this season when every other team isn’t.

Kielly is 22 whereas Shortridge turns 24 this month. Kielly's GAA and save % stats across two seasons are as good as Shortridge's, plus Kielly played a lot more games each season. Clarkson had 17 B2B's this season and Kielly played almost every game. Shortridge got a lot of nights off.

Theres no problem with burning a year on these guys. Its something you do to win over ncaa guys who have multiple teams insterested in them.

The ones that willingly sign atos are players who are not heavily sought after or want to go to certain teams which are usually contenders(tb, sj, etc) and thus are willing to concede to an ato unlike the others.

Kielly and teves both had a number of suitors, bogan im not sure about. Also they did ato a dif guy who was not as heavily sought after

On Sportsnet 650, they said Kielly was supposed to sign with a different team, but they ended up with too many goaltenders, and decided not to sign him last second.

To the surprise of the Canucks, Kielly's side contacted them.
