I think they're more just trading insults and finding opportunities to mock each other rather than trying to exchange real arguments of any kind there, personally.

I don't think Y2KCanucks phrased his insult to pass itself off as an argument, and I'm not sure the original post was anything substantive enough to call for a reason-driven defense.

If anything, their "arguments" are being used to support their insults, not the other way around. I wouldn't liken that to an ad-hominem.

I was more talking about Y2K being critical of the Virtanen deal, because it is attatched to Benning. Not because its a bad deal.

Good contract, at this point it will be great if he settles into a bottom six power forward that can contribute 12-15 goals. We might see a couple 20 goal seasons from him in his prime.

Well considering he’s already hit 10, I’m not sure a whopping 2 goals more (12) is setting the bar any higher than it already is. Even the top end of your range (15) seems like a pretty poor outcome for this player.

That said, the contract is a good one even if he shows absolutely zero improvement.

Because like Wilson he's another 1st round pick with some size who has busted relative to expectations. Every Canucks player is going to work out, didn't you know?

$1.25M per for 2 years isn't anything to get worked up about; however, my question is this: What did Jake accomplish that earned him a raise?
Technically he didn't get a raise. His AAV on his ELC was $1.74 million, so he's making less.

I'm pretty sure he didn't hit his bonuses... Unless those bonuses were tied to hits.
Outside of a month on the NHL roster/salary, he made a prorated $70K the rest of the season in 16-17.

It's definitely a raise for him.

Happy with this. Good cap and term - hope he can build off the way he finished last year.

I feel like he can take a step forward. I think he gets it now and is really putting in the work this summer. It really comes down to what kind of opportunity Green gives him instead of giving ice time to mediocre no upside veterans.

Love me some Jake!

Keep up how you finished last season, make the opposition keep their heads up, run everyone through the boards if they don’t, and use your speed boy!

First signing of the offseason I’m happy about. Just someone kidnap and lock up Jim Benning during UFA frenzy and he wouldn’t be half that bad

4 points in his final 22 games is "significant improvement?"
Only when you're the Canucks organizations, where standards have gone down and we give away 4+ year big contracts to fourth line players.

IMO this is his last chance to prove something.

Would be pretty hard to f*** up a re-signing for a player that shouldn’t earn much.

So great job Benning! You didn’t screw up, so I like it.

WTF did this deal come from? It's actually pretty reasonable, kudos to Benning.

But where was this kind of thinking on July 1?

Like Jake last year 75GP 10G 10A 20P -11

vs

Granlund 53GP 8G 4A 12P -10 prorates over 75GP to 11G 6A 17P

Oh and Granlund ATOI 16:15 vs 11:59

One of these two people got a raise...
