Probably a 3rd line winger.

We don't really have anything to trade for something of more value, and I'm not so sure Benning has the green light from ownership to make a major move right now anyway.

To offer, we have one slighty-used Virtanen, one even less-used Gaudette, and a bunch of middling prospects that every other franchise is full of. Take your pick :naughty:

So instead of making use of Virtanens higher value last off-season to trade him with Sutter or someone like Beagle to free up capspace for Toffoli, thereby freeing up Hoglander for the third line, he's going to make another dumb move now?

Benning: Trades draft pick they desperately need for the rebuild, while adding a useful, but not overly-impactful player

Nylander for Demko + 1st (top 5 protected this year, slides if top 5 to next year unprotected).

Vancouver gets a damn good player on a great contract with most of it already paid. That means that they won't have to sell as many blueberries.

The Leafs don't face Nylander 6 times a year after the season so they don't mind moving him. The cap savings help them a bit and they replace Andersen going forward. 1st is likely 10-15 and helps the Leafs replenish their prospect pool.

Weird take. . Virtanen is the author of his own demise
It's the take of someone who doesn't take in every Canucks game. It's just kind of odd to limit the opportunity of a young player whose seen his offensive production consistently grow from year to year. It's unlikely you'll see anyone pop in 18 from the fourth line.

Seems like they're making the same choices with Gaudette, who they had pretty high hopes about a short time ago. Is it really necessary to lean on Sutter so heavily?
