What a ridiculously biased take...

Those guys might be top 3 prospects in the Canucks pool but they are not blue chip prospects. You’re acting like I offered Pod.
Well I think Hoglander has too 6 potential.

Rathbone is arguably the Canucks best d prospect and certainly has pairing potential.

maybe they aren’t as high ceiling as Podz but the Canucks can not afford to trade any more prospects.

I would consider Hoglander just as valuable as Podz. Podz just has the recency bias but Hoglander is just as likely to make an impact on the team as Pods when they both do come overseas. Different type of players of course.

Maybe im higher than most on Hoglander but i see a little S%&T disturbor with skill, a mini Brad Marchand.

Don't forget that Hoglander was leading the WJC in scoring in the tournament before he got suspended in the semi finals for a hit to the head.

While I am also high on Hoglander, the Bruins absolutely cannot move Carlo for a downgrade on F and a prospect. He is only being discussed on the market if it was to bring an upgrade on the top six.

I have a bias again but what about the Canucks getting a 2nd from Boston and Lauzon and then going after Fabbro to reunite Lauzon - Fabbro as a pairing from the WJC Canada roster?

I know most would have been happy with a NHL prospect and 2nd for Virtanen and this is a solid offer. I know Bruins fans would be reluctant to part with Zboril (also from that WJC tournament but from Czech Republic) because he was leading the Bruins D in Providence and looks NHL ready.

Both are NHL ready LHD. Lauzon can play the right side as well. Both are slotted to play on the Bruins this year.

I think we can all move on from the DeBrusk and Virtanen talks and focus on which D prospect + a pick makes it worthwhile to move Virtanen to Boston.

I'm still not convinced that Virtanen is the guy the Canucks are moving unless one of the bad contracts goes with him. I can see something like Virtanen and Beagle being shopped together to a contender.

Also, is Boston perhaps interested in replacing Tory Krug with Jack Rathbone? Another local boy , went to Harvard of coursse. Many that followed Harvard said that Rathbone was as good if not better than Fox and Marino at the program. OF course Fox and Marino had smooth transition right into the NHL and Rathbone is looking to do that after signing with the Canucks this summer.

I'm just not sure that Virtanen is worth a cap dump.

The reason being that the Bruins dumped Backes with 1.5 years left for a 1st and Kase.
Leafs for Marleau, another 1st.

So the going rate is a 1st. Is Virtanen worth that? No, but I'd say he is worth another prospect with upside and a 2nd/3rd.

Maybe you have something with Virtanen and Ferland perhaps? I know the Bruins wanted him as well before the additional year was tacked onto that contract.

Stupid question... but Fox is only the 4th dman in Harvard history to reach 100 points. Is Rathbone legit on par with Fox?

I haven't followed Rathbone. My understanding is that if he is on par if not better than Marino, sure. But Fox I have my doubts. I'm willing to be open minded about it though.

it screams better team mates and a strong culture. this is how boston works. pump up these middling guys and move them out for better players who have not found their feet.

ryan donato - charlie coyle
danton heinen - nick ritchie
jake debrusk - jake virtanen

notice a pattern? gotta give boston credit.

Debrusk doesn't follow that pattern. He is a very different and far more established player than Heinen or Donato ever were.

No pick Vaakananien and Senshyn or Bjork

I was just posting about Vaakanianen when you posted this.

I loved his game when I got to see him multiple times in the WJC's here in Vancouver, including the Gold Medal game for Finland. He was their anchor and solid defenseman. Pretty much our Carlo on the LHD side.

My bias watching him multiple times in person has him above Zboril but Bruins fans who attend AHL games regularly say Zboril is ahead so I trust them when they say that Zboril is the next LHD coming up and Vaakanianen is going to take all the leadership and top pairing minutes in the AHL.

Senyshyn is such a wild card here. The best emotional connection or comparison I can give for Canucks fans is that Bruins fans treat him like Canucks fans treat Virtanen; they hold much different value but there is an emotional interest (given they took him over Barzal, Connor, Chabot etc) to see him succeed next year and steal the RW spot from Bjork on Bergeron's line.

Both is too steep for Virtanen. One of them and a pick seems about right for Jake or we circle back to the amazing contract Sweeney got Bjork to sign as an appeal to Benning who wants to cut cap from his wings and put it on D.

Any who, back in topic.. not that I don’t see value in debrusk he’s just not what Canucks need anyways.

Essentially the idea was moving Virtanen/gaudette as primary pieces for a draft pick or (unlikely with bruins) and young RHD with top 4 potential. Carlo would be a pipe dream but not at the expense of Boeser. So honestly not sure there’s a deal to be made here (or that we fans will ever agree on).

Fox is more complete and plays better defensively but Rathbone is better skater. Shooting probably par. Rathbone has development to do in his defensive game. He isnt as good as Fox is today obviously but Rathbone also has a very high ceiling.

Hmm... OK. So he's not as good as Fox.

Honestly speaking, I'm getting Stetcher transition vibes from Rathbone based on what I'm hearing but with a higher ceiling (could be wrong). He's not going to be sniffing top 10 Calder sort of thing, but the club he plays for will still be very happy with his NHL debut?

EDIT: as odd as it might sound, perhaps a Krug lite?

Yes definitely Krug style more than Stecher. Stecher is a positional Dman with very little offence and a cupcake shot. Almost opposite of Rathbone.

If the Canucks are to move Virtanen for a prospect defenseman I would hope it would be one with a RH’ed shot as that’s their biggest weakness. Don’t see them having interest in Zboril/Lauzon.
100% agreed especially if the Left Handed shot isnt much of an upgrade if its even one over Juolevi, Rathbone, Tryamkin

All the Bruins top defensive prospects are left handed, but Zboril and Lauzon have experience playing both sides (Lauzon has only played RD in the NHL).

Vaakaneinen - Expansion draft exempt. Excellent skater and puck mover that thinks the game very well. High floor. Plays conservative. Its unclear if he will ever develop offense to raise his ceiling beyond a 2nd pairing puck mover. NHL ready.

Zboril - Has played the shutdown role in Providence for a couple years and by the end of the year was the teams best defender and was starting to look like the guy they thought they drafted. The pros are that he is a smooth skater and puck mover and also has jam and nasty. The con is that he has a history of making the selfish play (going out of position for the big retaliatory hit) and that he has to go thru waivers. NHL ready.

Lauzon - Modern physical defensive defenseman. He is good at getting a low hard shot on net, but that's it for offense. Can play both sides and Boston was using him at RD with Gryz for the last third of the season.

Other guys of interest -

Beecher - just finished his freshman season at Michigan. Big and fast. Think Ryan Kesler. Does the offense develop like it did with Kesler?

Bjork - just signed at 3 yr 1.6m deal. Speedy two way winger that can play both wings. He was very good at getting in scoring positions and LOOKED like a 2nd liner, but just no finish. Is that it or is there more? At a minimum, you have a cost controlled NHL player with versatility.

Frederic - Mean f***ing SOB. Big and strong. Has some playmaking skills and for a while was leading AHL in posts hit. You hope you are getting a Boone Jenner.

Senyshyn - Poor guy. Will never be Barzal or Connor or Boeser or...well... can go on and on. What he is is a big and fast straight line skater that is good on the forecheck and will head to the net. Bruins have been playing him in the bottom 6 in Providence in a checking line role to have him work on his all around game, since in the OHL he was basically a break away cherry picking specialist. No way to put lipstick on it, despite looking good in his three NHL games, he has not lit it up in the AHL. A change of location would be good for him. Would be a throw in, but I think he is worth mentioning as someone who could fill in on the right side in the bottom 6 for cheap.

i will grant you donato

but if we're going to discuss patterns.

when traded heinen had 220 bruin games. he had a best 47 point season (his first full season)

when traded spooner had 254 bruin games and a best 49 point season (his first full season)

debrusk currently has 200 bruin games, and a best 43 point season (his first full season)

and you are speaking to someone who had to eat crow after supporting signing tim schaller.

i don't know what you do to these guys, but i do not buy bruins stats as reflective of how mid range talent will play elsewhere in the nhl.

Sam Girard best case scenario imo for Rathbone.
