Why is Raleigh treated like garbage in the sports world? What do we do wrong that Nashville and Charlotte and even places like Cincinnati who have less people and more teams do right?

If the league could move the Canes back to Hartford, they so would. If only we could demolish Carter-Finley and build a new downtown facility for an MLS team and NC State.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Leave NC State out of your move downtown. Alumni are too attached to the tailgate atmosphere before games to ever green light something like that.

Boo boo. They'd live. Raleigh would be perfect for MLS and they just thumbed out nose at us for no real reason.

State deserves nothing but to perish. Especially after their CWS debacle. Nobody would miss State if it ceased to be, do we really need it anyway?

Sorry about the stadium game!

If the NHL had any brains they would have the Canes play at Nashville followed by having Nashville play the following season outdoors at Raleigh or wherever in NC. They just aren't smart enough to think of that for some reason. It would promote the two teams, the Stadium Series and southern pro hockey in general.

That's actually my only minor gripe. When I originally saw that Nashville got one and didn't see the opponent, I thought it'd be great after just spending a season together and a playoff series. Of course, I recognize only the biggest markets would be allowed to play in outdoor games two years in a row.

Can't believe there was a time I didn't take the two seconds to block people.

Seems to me you are the one shitting all over everything about the city.

I want this city to be better. Nobody else does.

I look at Charlotte, Nashville, Atlanta, DC, even places like St. Louis and Cincinnati that do more with less people and see what we could be if we cared. But nobody here cares.

Central City
One of the problems Raleigh and the Triangle in general have had in being "big time" is that the area grew up with 2 downtowns/cities as hubs. Unlike the twin cities or DFW this area did not have some of the economic bulwarks (oil banking for Dallas for example) for large growth and inertia just kept it minor league.

Things are changing as we are currently seeing in this era of rapid growth and name recognition comes with it. In the 60s if you travelled around tbe country and said you were from Raleigh most people would not know where the hell you were talking about. Much different now.

Charlotte, Nashville, DC, and Atlanta are all bigger and except for Charlotte the other 3 have some sort of tourist draw.

I still don't like how this all went down, and something just isn't adding up. The Canes do a lot of stuff on social media and knock it out of the park often. But the one thing you never see happen with them is that they are completely unprepared for an announcement or event, especially when it directly relates to us. The fact that they didn't release that canned statement from Waddell until a few hours after Bettman made his announcement is very much unlike them. They're usually all over something like this, with at least the Canes twitter account going shrug emoji when we were passed over. That it went silent?

Something doesn't smell right about this.

I also spoke with my ticket rep just a couple weeks ago regarding playoff tickets and my STM standing for next year. Part of that conversation involved how many tickets I would potentially be eligible for for the outdoor game. I highly doubt that conversation happens if they knew the game had already been delayed. And its not like they are counting on me for more money, I kept my money with them during the pandemic, next season is already paid for. So there was zero incentive to BS me.

All in all, it really does seem like the team was completely caught off guard with this.

They are not going to release that kind of information to a bunch of $15/hour employees for the purpose of sharing it with STMs before the league even announces it. That’s how you get a social media panic and N&O reporters swarming employees for leaks.

Waddell said explicitly in the statement that the decision was made “earlier this year” which implies months ago. They just kept a lid on it until the league was ready to announce the outdoor game schedule. That’s how public communications works, they don’t screw with the league by deliberately leaking info to fans who are going to be mad regardless.

The 3 hour delay leads me to believe this is bullshit. If we really were working with the league, we would have had that statement ready to go during that press conference.
