Really good contract number in exchange for 1-way deal, which is fine because he was going to make the team anyway.

(I posted in the other thread but looks like he's important enough to get his own.)

Not bad if he ends up more on the fourth line. Pretty good if he is routinely higher and plays well.

I must complain blah blah too much blah blah cap floor.
In all seriousness I thought he'd get a million, not bad.

Curious why people think he'd get more. If he puts up 20 points next year, I'd be surprised.

He's put up 20 points in 78 nhl games so far. He's also been noticeably better with each call up. If he plays in all 82 games I don't think 25-30 points would be out of the question.

Nordstrom got more than that, is the reason I am happy with it being low.

Also, for a 1-way deal and a guy expected to be on a roster, contracts don't get that much lower.

He had 4 points in his last 30 games last year. And that's thanks to 2 goals in the last game of the season.

I don't think 25-30 points is out of the question. I just think if 25-30 points is a question at all, anything above the league minimum is a blessing.

yeah, he had like half his points in one week which convinced people he was good and did almost nothing for the rest of the season. not sure why he'd get a million when nordstrom and nestrasil were far better in their contract years, were arbitration eligible (mcginn wasn't) and got $1.275m/yr and 912.5k/yr, respectively.

i think about 15 points is a reasonable projection for him.

v true. if you take out the games he scored points he has very few points.

Usually, that's a good point. I don't think it's so good here.

In McGinn's case:

4 points over a 30 game stretch to end the season.
2 points over a 21 game stretch to start the season.
4 points in 21 games last season.

So I think it's fair to be suspicious his little hot streak was a fluke.

McGinn went pointless in 49 of the 57 GP (~86%) in 16-17. In 15-16, he went pointless in 18 of the 21 GP (also ~86%.)

Maybe I'm a little too bearish, but I don't see him as more than a 4th liner on a good team. I think of him as a future Maxim Lapierre; a guy that played in parts of 10 seasons as a 4th liner capable of putting up 15-20 points per season, killing penalties and being a ****-stirrer on the ice.

He seemed to elevate his game a little when he was put on that line with Staal and Lindy. Maybe he's the guy that can be a decent third wheel and allows you to move Aho elsewhere in the lineup and spread things out a bit.
