NHL has a minimum level of accommodations (like 4-5 star/diamond).

Las Vegas does have a number that meet that criteria. YMMV based on value of your wallet.

If you're willing to stay in any of those places, have at it. I'll certainly pass. No chance the NHL or anyone with any means would stay there by choice.
I’m just rambling out dumpy casinos. Heck I’ve stayed at the Hacienda and Stardust. I’m sure they can survive Circus Circus.

:dunno:

Palace Station just underwent huge renovation.

(Caesars just sold Circus Circus)

AHL Henderson is supposed to play there in the fall. So unless something else is scheduled, it might be iced up for practice.
Circus Circus was an MGM Property along with Treasure Island which was also sold years ago.

Will the Knights be more successful than the Raiders?

I mean I know the business model is great for the NFL in Vegas. But amongst Vegas locals, you gotta think the Knights will be their number one team no?

The Raiders will always be Oakland’s/LA’s team. Had they gotten an expansion team, it would be different. I see no reason why the Knights wouldn’t still be the top team in town.

What happens when players and team staff begin to test positive? Let's not fool ourselves, it will happen. Will some players be banned from taking the ice? Could an entire team be placed into isolation for 14 days? Will other players refuse being forced to play with infectious persons?

To be determined. Daly said one positive test won't stop the play.

If guys are sequestered/quarantined/isolated, and proper cleaning procedures are followed, they shouldn't get infected.

Before play begins, testing should reveal any players who have antibodies (and may have been carriers), any who are sick (and therefore shouldn't be playing until healthy as a minimum). Most localities are requiring two week quarantine of newly arrived folks.

So, players returning to NHL city might need two weeks, and then NHL hub location may require quarantine. :dunno:

If family members are allowed to accompany player, they also would need to be tested.

Lots of questions still to be answered, US-Canada border closed notwithstanding.

Las Vegas will look a lot different when it re-opens. People need to realize that.

I would have thought so, but I have a strong feeling that the powers that constitute "Vegas" will try to go the "this thing didn't really happen, let's carry on as before to make some $$$" route. The economics of Vegas only make sense in a pre-Covid world, so they will be the last ones to acknowledge a need for major changes.

Nope. Casinos MAY get the chance to put their announced "clean everything and keep the visitors socially distancing" into practice in June. Casino floors may be up to 50% of normal capacity (at least every other machine unusable; limits on # of folks at tables). Restaurants maybe not even 50%.

No date has been set. Most corporations are opening 1-2 up to maybe half of their dozens of properties.

MGM is opening New York New York and Bellagio only. (Park MGM, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, Four Seasons, Delano, etc., still closed)
Caesars is opening Caesars Palace and the Flamingo only.
Station is opening maybe half of theirs.
Binions, Golden, etc., only opening a few.
(And at least one casino in Laughlin is "permanently" closed with no plans to reopen.)

With 40+ million/year visitors normally (that's an average of more than 3 million/month), things will start slowly. There will be some pent up demand, but the diehards may have to drive in with 75% of flights cancelled (and sparsely filled if one is scheduled).

My guess is things will be up to maybe 30% of normal by the end of summer. Perhaps 50% of normal by end of the calendar year.

I know that hotel discussion boards I visit (I have worked in hotels for over 30 years all over the world) are discussion the "demands" from the NHL and some of them are interesting to say the least. The NHL is trying to get exclusive use of the hotels meaning that no one but those associated with the NHL or NHL teams can stay in the hotels. Also, it looks like the NHL is trying grind the rates down low in exchange for "all the free press" the hotel will be getting

for me, the reason why we have not heard which are the hub cities yet is because the cities in question have not been willing to underwrite more of the overall costs that will be incurred

Gaming tables, slot machines - 50% or less capacity.

Social distancing at all queuing-up spaces (registration, elevators, etc.).

No buffets. Restaurants with smaller table groups, fewer tables.

Given the number of hotels that are shut down right now, getting exclusive use doesn't seem unreasonable, but, trying to lean on the"free advertising" angle seems silly when no one is really travelling.

I'm also disappointed, but absolutely not surprised that the NHL would try and push costs to the host city.

Town NHL hates !
Nevada among low rates of infection and among first to start reopening.

If players have entire block with resort amenities, including night club and pool, segregated/blocked off from the world, why would they need to leave bubble to recreate?

As it is, today, no nightclubs nor pool day clubs are open. Casinos still closed, but signs are they may reopen in June, with 50% capacity on casino floor. Big corporations are only opening select properties; MGM only opening 2 of their dozen, for instance. No evening entertainment/shows open either.

Guess makes even more sense for Vegas then. MGM as a league partner can keep a hotel or two closed down to general public and keep them for NHL players and personnel only while the playoffs are on-going.

It's gotta be a Canadian City.

I had said in the past how there are many venues in Edmonton (Rogers Place with two rinks and re-open Rexall Place temporarily) and the Lower Mainland (aka Vancouver). I would say Toronto but COVID is too intense in Ontario, would say Quebec considering they have so many out there but COVID is the worst there.

Would love to say Winnipeg, but all we have is BMTSP and Max Bell.

But let us not forget how Las Vegas barely has any rinks out there.

The number of rinks in the area doesn't matter. They are only playing at NHL-level facilities. The highest quality NCAA and minor pro facilities were not good enough for the NHL and they threw out that plan. It is only NHL-facilities they are looking at. The only things that set those cities apart are their abilities to keep the players isolated, in hotel rooms and such, and a few other smaller factors. The number of rinks in the area is absolutely irrelevant.
