I mean it makes sense. It is perfectly set up for such a situation with thousands of hotel rooms within steps of the rink.

Hearing Vegas has limited NHL quality rinks/training facilities to be a good candidate for one of 2 hub cities but would definitely be a great fit for Conference Finals & SC Finals.

Interesting note from the article, empty arenas work for this end of season as most revenues are already in. However for next season this would be more challenging as owners would reportedly lose less money by not playing.

Source in the article is reported to be someone "closely" involved in current planning efforts.

A hotel gym Would need to be rejigged with different equipment for NHL players. So long as they have the space, it can work. It’s the on ice facilities that could be an issue as teams need to practice.

VGK practice rink has two sheets and multiple locker rooms.

If there are only four teams, that's more than enough for 4 teams to practice

There are other sheets in valley, but CNA would be the best option.

Work out area.... many hotels have ballrooms/conference areas that could be outfitted. (Could borrow equipment from two SoCal teams, maybe.)

Biggest downside of Las Vegas is how do ypu enforce strict quarantines on players in a party city like that.

Getting inflected in Vegas has been a concern long before COVID came along.

Nevada among low rates of infection and among first to start reopening.

If players have entire block with resort amenities, including night club and pool, segregated/blocked off from the world, why would they need to leave bubble to recreate?

As it is, today, no nightclubs nor pool day clubs are open. Casinos still closed, but signs are they may reopen in June, with 50% capacity on casino floor. Big corporations are only opening select properties; MGM only opening 2 of their dozen, for instance. No evening entertainment/shows open either.

My comment was half in jest, but,Vegas has it's party reputation for a reason. Young men in their twenties and thirties have a tendency to find ways to entertain themselves. Vegas has a whole host of people that connects people to their indulgences in discreet ways.

It's just as well that it happen in Vegas, from the standpoint of media exposure. It's not like fans can be there anyway, so we are only going to enjoy this as much as media coverage allows. I say have it wherever it will create the most hype while meeting the safety/logistics criteria.

Am I just imagining things or doesn't the MGM also have an NHL arena in it as well? If not, where was JR dancing?

Nevada I don't think took very secure measures against Covid, part of the city of Vegas was openly against the lockdown, and they're one of the states that's most likely botching their testing or test numbers.

:dunno:

Palace Station just underwent huge renovation.

(Caesars just sold Circus Circus)

I wonder if Orleans Arena still has ice capabilities from the Wranglers being there. Possible additional practice location

AHL Henderson is supposed to play there in the fall. So unless something else is scheduled, it might be iced up for practice.

Seems like a bad choice when you have places like Vancouver reaching or very near 0 cases
