NHL trade rumors: Canadiens not getting fair value in Max Pacioretty offers, report says | Sporting News
Best quotes:

"Brendan Kelly of the Montreal Gazette reported Monday that Marc Bergevin has been having trouble getting market value in offers for the team captain"

"Pacioretty, a five-time 30-goal scorer, is one of two players (along with Alex Ovechkin) to reach the 30-goal plateau in each season between 2013 and 2017. In 2017-18, Pacioretty (much like the Canadiens) had a down year: he scored 17 goals, his lowest full-season total since his rookie campaign, while scoring on a career-low 8-percent of his shots."

What is a fair offer?

What is a market value offer? Isn't what a GM is willing to pay for a specific player in a trade "market value"? Because market value includes things like recent performance, overall play, being good in the room, etc. And when there are questions about several of those things should it be a surprise that a players value isn't as high as you'd like?

To be fair, Bergevin didn't "announce" any of the above.
Not in the literal sense, but figuratively speaking all his actions pointed to that. He's been getting shopped around for a while.

At this point, I'd hold on to him until the trade deadline, ship him to a contender and get what you can then. It'll be our best bet to get something decent back.

The offers aren't likely to get any better this summer, especially with Skinner also still on the market. If he can come in and get off to a hot start they might be able to make a better deal in-season.

You missed a quote:

"Remember that controversy when it was alleged former coach Michel Therrien was overheard at a golf tournament saying Patches was the worst captain in Canadiens history?"

LOL

Therrien is an oaf, but not necessarily wrong. It's either Keane, Turgeon, or Pacioretty and for entirely different reasons.

What is a fair offer?
A fair offer is the market value less the value of management trash talking him and less the value of the desperation everyone smells on Montreal. My guess...a second round pick and a B prospect

Once the deadline rolls around, a team that needs scoring will pony up a first and negligible prospect.

Just wait until the TDL. Some team will be in the thick of a playoff race, have a forward injury and will pony up something half assed good.

Unless he repeats his past year performance. Then you might be in the back to back 2nd rounders territory.

Even then, better than nothing!

Yea I agree here. I think to get the best value he will need to be traded in season or near the trade deadline. They can hope he has a rebound season to boost what they can get.

Bergevin may not have said it but it was leaked that Montreal won’t be presenting him a contract to stay

Leaked or someone just threw shit at the wall and hoped it stuck ?

Unless the GM comes out and says that specifically, no matter how dumb the GM is, doesn't make it true.

Look at the number of people who already misquoted it.
