Just fine, we know it's your culture. It's your "it's everyone against us" and you act like it, which will ultimately create an atmosphere which holds true. If you want to get the most out of the "us against them" mentality, good for you. That you think this is how the international atmosphere should be (that's pretty evident by now), good for you.

But then don't come asking for other nations to sit in your lap and lick your shoes. You reap what you sow. Actions will have reactions, it's nothing strange. If you think you are the sole actors on an international scene which dictates how things should be, it will have consequences.

So, collectively act like pompous ******** and Swedes will mentally strangle you. Listen what other nation's fans have to say about this for crying out loud, it's pretty evident to see. It's not like they like how Canadians collectively act either.

That's fine as well. I didn't create this, nor did I ask for it, nor do I ***** or whine about it. This is the way it is...and it's been like this for a very long time. We aren't all this way....but many were taught to be.

I just looked up this "Jante Law" thing and it made me immediatly think of what teenage girls do to each other to try and tear certain girls down. That is nothing to be proud of.

Is that what you want to represent your country? I am certainly feeling alot better about you not getting a medal if this is the case.

Where did Sweden finish again? Fourth?:shakehead

Well...they did beat Canada.

I think some of the Swedish stuff is being overblown by the Canadians. So what if they said they weren't afraid of the Canadians, is that what Canadians secretly expect? That every team will come into a tournament and say they are scared of Canada? (why did I ask, I know the answer)

Might have a point about the coach's comments after the Canada game, but it's still not the most disrespectful comment I've ever heard.

The Swedish goalie saying the icing call wouldn't have happened to Canada...am I the only one who remembers Don Koharski's completely balanced and unbiased officiating performance in the 1986 Canada Cup final?

The tape on the door after the game...absolutely, that was a jab at Canada. If Canada wins they don't put similar tape on Canada's door.

But really, think about it. You have historical rivalries in Russia and USA that go back years and years...and you're going to start considering Sweden your biggest rival just because they put some tape on Russia's door?

Oh the hypocrisy of some Canadians. Oh boo-hoo, the Swedes are disrespectful, they put up a note congratulating Russia just to mess with us! The Swedish coach claimed we sucked compared to Russia! How dare they! We’re team Canada! They are just jealous!

Get over it. What about the Canadian coach who harassed a Swedish reporter after our loss against Russia? What about two years ago when Sweden were refused to have a certain locker room just because it was “too good†for them and no one but Canada could have it?

Please, so someone is giving you a taste of your own medicine. It’s a crime against humanity.

Eh, no...It's something that a majority of Swedes are trying to get away from and is absolutely nothing to be proud of. It is beginning to change now when the Social Democrats are losing their hold on the minds and behavior of Swedes but is still prevalent in society.

You could see Jante as the polar opposite of the general mindset of Americans and the US, where success is a positive and where people are admired for attaining success in any given field.

There is a paradox here though, because Sweden could easily be seen as one of the most "Americanized" countries in the world.

On topic: Sweden sees Canada as its biggest rival in hockey because of the reasons Chimp posted. Read his posts in this thread to maybe get a better understanding of the apparent "disrespect" Canadians have suffered at the hands of Swedes the last couple of weeks.

Now that Sweden has beaten Canada in this tournament, they can finally go for the real goal of winning the gold medal. Unfortunately, they've now had 3-4 great age groups that failed at this goal and they may not have that kind of quality teams in the near future.

It started before the tournament even began when they came out and basically said they weren't even worried about the Canadians and that the Americans were the favourites...

...The sign was from the Swedes congratulating the Russians on winning the gold medal, but it might as well have been sent to team Canada because they were clearly trying to rub it in their faces.

It almost seemed as of the Swedes were going out of their way to get under team Canada's skin throughout the entire tournament and although it was rendered meaningless in the end, hopefully it is something the Canadians will remember.

-Going into the tournament, weren't the US considered the favourites? I sure thought so. No disrespect there, I would have agreed with them.

-I might be wrong, but I think Canada congratulated Finland after they beat the US and won bronze in 2006.

-Well if that's what they wanted to do, it sure worked for them in their game vs. Canada. Yeah, maybe Canada will remember this, but in the meantime, Hockey Canada has much bigger concerns than what a medal-less country has to say about them.

This shouldn't even be a story. But I'll welcome another "rival" in the tournament, since it will only make the tournament more exciting to watch. Gives me another game to jacked up for.

"Prevalent in society" WRONG! I have never ever met a single person who is ashamed of their success or think they can't grow up to be something great.

The name calling in this thread is high-school level.

We're all fans/players, we all love hockey, there should be no reason to hate each other.

I don't like seeing Canada lose, but I do consider that foreign teams winning medals and championships encourages hockey to grow in that country. Canada doesn't need any help in that department.

I want hockey to get bigger, I want more countries to fund their hockey systems and I want to see more players from all over the world in the NHL. And winning world tournaments is a good incentive for countries to fund their programs.

Seriously why is everyone so petty in here?

Swedes love to indulge in conspiracy theories about the WJC. I guess that kind of stuff comes natural when you've only won the tourny once in 35 years.

Talk is cheap, and frankly irrelevant at the end of the day. Gold is the standard by which success is measured in Canada, if that offends anybody so be it. We set high standards and are not going to apologize for it, snipe away.

lol, and here I thought that the poster "may possibly" be a sarcastic congratulations that the WJC win was only possible because of Sweden's non-call misfortune.

For some Canadian to find that that Swedish/Russia congratulatory poster is all about "Canada" is just plain comedy IMO.

While Sweden is an excellent hockey nation, this year's world juniors made one of the biggest mistakes in sports...showing no respect for their opponents. Nothing good can come out of this kind of mentality in sports. No one likes it and everyone will be hoping to see you fail. This can motovate opponents and make play harder than they normally would, maybe even leading some players to attempt to injure your players. Officials are more prone to giving your opposition the benifit of the doubt on calls as well.

If Sweden wants to become a hockey power viewed in the same light as Canada or Russia, they need to learn to keep these kinds of unsportsmanlike comments to themselves.

Quiet, omnipotent Canadian. It is so typical of Canadians (hint: generalization) to misinterpret even the slightest - and practically non-existent - "opposing" comment, action or whatever, against Canada as a team (which this isn't even in any way). As so many others have already mentioned - this is ridiculous! You are just pissed because a team did not subject themselves and name you their king.

And I hope you know that many teams generally find your team - Canada - as an "unsportsmanlike" hockey nation who uses every single veto available to get in control. Actually I think Canada has this label throughout the world. So please, before you go megaton and blame the Swedes for being "cocky" (wow, talk about shooting yourself in the foot) maybe you should look at your own team?

And you say Sweden showed no respect for their opponents. Wow. I beg to differ, since you base this on a comment giving credit to another team; consequently congratulating the winners. How dare they.

We know you "own" the game of Hockey :)D) but you would be surprised how many times we really don't involve you when we talk about it. It is not always about Canada.

Well, if you think that you are most probably a socialist or very young. I'm not basing this on the company I keep or by people I meet, I'm basing it on the behaviour of society as a whole, fueled by the media.

Jealousy of your neighbour and suspicion against people with their own businesses for example are very common. As I said, it is changing, but will take a generation or two without socialist influence on the minds and hearts of the population to be erradicated.

To say it's a myth is just false. Fact: People who win money on the lottery generally get more respect in Sweden than people who make their own money through hard work. It's a sad fact but anyone who has seen anything knows it unfortunately still holds true.

And then the icing on the cake to Sweden's obvious discontent for the Canadians was when TSN showed a congratulatory sign that was posted on the Russian locker room door almost immediately following their gold medal win. The sign was from the Swedes congratulating the Russians on winning the gold medal, but it might as well have been sent to team Canada because they were clearly trying to rub it in their faces.

How did that work out anyways? I missed the gold medal game.

False!!!!

Russia's Bear League would destroy Canada's.

Either way. It's those types of comments above that make it hard to criticize the Swedes. It's one thing to know your the best and another to feel the need to voice it every 5 seconds like it's some huge accomplishment. It's comes off as arrogant and it gets annoying real quick.

A little humility would go a long way around here.
