I think that there should be a Canada vs US 7 game series in the spring of 2011.

If they decline to pursue Olympic participation beyond 2010 and fall back on the World Cup, they certainly need to make sure that they don't invite 12 teams. The seven power teams, else eight if they need symmetry to make it work, would be my strong preference. In two of three pools, the first two games of a three-game round robin were virtually meaningless... useful only for determining goal differential rather than constituting outcomes that were in doubt. Too many of those games for such a short tournament. Canada, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, USA, and perhaps Switzerland.

The Olympics might need to be inclusive, but a World Cup invitational is not bound by the same restrictions.
