The team USA at the U-17 in Winnipeg last winter seemed to have a more recognizable roster. Where did those kids go?
http://www.hockeycanada.ca/index.ph.../profile_id/146687/team_id/77878/ss_id/74637/

Thats the NTDP U-17 team (will be the U-18 team this season) ...USA Hockey doesnt choose that team for the Ivan Hlinka. This is the U-17 select team made up of players that went to the National Festival in Rochester N.Y. a week and half ago...Players had to be at this camp to take part at the Ivan Hlinka tournament

Do you know what the rational for that is?

That statement is inaccurate. USAH runs that Festival under its Player Development Program and the evaluators are under the auspice of USAH. The press releases and all information for the team comes out of Colorado. One of the assistants, Matt Greason, is a coach with the NDTP.

You could say that this team has nothing to do with NDTP and be accurate but it is 100% USAH.

What I meant was USA Hockey doesnt choose the NTDP U-18 team for the Ivan Hlinka Tournament. I understand USA Hockey still chooses the roster for the Ivan Hlinka. Sorry for the confusion

Murray is too old ('93 born, this tournament is for '94s and younger)

isnt this tournament supposed to be the best of the upcoming (2012 in this case) draft?

wont 90% of the players be 2012 draft eligible like he is?

This tournament is for players born in 1994 and younger.

Last year Murray was eligible because it was for players born in 1993.

This isn't like the CHL Top Prospects game where all the top CHL draft prospects for the upcoming draft play whether you are an early or late birthdate. International tournaments go by birthyear

No worries. That's what I believed you were trying to say anyway.

so international tournaments go by birth year, what does the nhl draft eligibility go by?

Switzerland has released it's final roster for the Ivan Hlinka Cup....

http://sehv.ch/media/native/pdf/siha/nationalmannschafte/u18_frauen/u18_aufgebot_world_cup_2011.pdf

The Swiss played during their summer camp three games vs. Germany and won the 1st game 10-0, the 2nd 6-3 and lost the 3rd 0-1 with a Marvin Cüpper in net for Germany who stole the show!

The Swiss have a skilled and fast team, but once again lack size... Whatch out for Christoph Bertschy, Julian Schmutz, Anthony Rouiller, Sandro Zangger and Nicola Brandi who should all make offensive noise!

They only take 94's (last year 93's etc). I don't remember why that is, maybe someone else here knows.

Canada generally goes by birth year, unless someone exceptional is coming along and they will play up a birth year, ie: Crosby. Canada doesnt need to pull kids up an age group as they have so many in each birth year to choose from. I would say though if they did take a younger player or two each year, they would probably be even a bit stronger than they usually are.

Really the only time Hockey Canada brings a kid up an age group is at the U17 or the IIHF U18's(where because of the CHL playoffs, a large number of players are not available). At the U17's normally the smaller provinces have underagers to fill out the roster.

DrPabloRamirez posted a local channel that covers it. I can't find the link.
Somebody also had a link to a website that looked a lot like WHL Live.
