"If Canada is to successfully defend the Gold medal it will be on the shoulders of the 19 year olds, Comtois, Glass, Vilardi, Frost, Thomas, Tibbett, Suzuki, Formenten etc. or whatever collection of those players on the team and not in the NHL."

Lafreniere is better than Formenton and even when including Formenton on the squad he would still have a good chance of making the squad regardless. Lafreniere is much better than Connor Dewar as well.

"I do give him credit for leading Team Canada in scoring at the U18 tournament as an underager. Remind me again what color medal Canada came home with from that tournament. So, he wasn't able to deliver the goods (winning) at a tournament in which he was an underager, but somehow you think he'll be the difference maker at a tournament in which he'll be a double underager. And that was a decent team that should have at least made a 1/2 final. That team underperformed."

So it's all because of Lafreniere that the team didn't medal? Because it sounds like thats what youre saying. It's ridiculous pinning the quarterfinal exit on a single player, if you watched the game you wouldve seen that the whole team didnt bother showing up until the 3rd period and by then it was already too late. That loss was on the whole team, not on him solely. Also he scored a goal in 4 of Canada's 5 tournament games, seems like he was a difference maker to me, had the team gone farther I'm sure he would've posted more goals and points. He's shown that he's perfectly capable of playing against older competition. Of course if he was to play in the World Juniors next year I don't expect him to be a tournament points leader, but he would be more than capable of playing up to the competition and holding his own.

lol.

I just checked him out as I don't know much about him, seems as if he is Ottawa Senators property.
Yup ...looked good in Dev camp.. steady, moves the puck well, jumps in when its clear... I did not know much about him pre-draft

Yeah, what I am reading about him sounds promising. You really think he will make the team with the competition for spots he has? quite a few highly regarded guys this year.

I'm not pinning the 1/4 final exit on any one player. see above "that team underperformed"

but he also didn't do enough in my opinion to deserve the golden pass up yet another age bracket based solely on that tournament. not yet anyway. Let's see how he does at Hlinka, and what he does in the fall to warrant an invite to u20 December camp.

What are people's opinion on Jack Studnicka's game/chances? Don't get to watch much OHL hockey and all reports coming out of development camp have been encouraging about his progress.

It would be a mistake to not take Bowers. Kid is just a winner.
What has he won and to what level did he contribute? I say this because he certainly didn't produce in USHL playoffs and he didn't play well in the Hlinka/Gretzky cup. Quarterfinals loss in the frozen four tourney isn't great either. Is there something I am missing from your quote.

Sorry, am i missing something? Why isn't Stuart Skinner as the goalie? Is he no longer eligible?

First game thoughts

I thought Lavoie was probably Canadas best forward, he was dangerous all game.

Rasmussen was probably the second best, he had 2 points and a lot of take aways with a long stick (but I'm biased)

Comtois played good but I mentioned earlier that he mighta been running around a little too much. He'll be taking penalties if he played like today all tournament (he was probably just horny cause he hasnt played in a while though)

I heard Studnickas name a lot, he didnt really do anything crazy noticeable but he was around the puck enough for me to hear his name getting called. Not a bad thing

Dobson was good. He scored twice ( added bonus) but he was good defensively. His second goal wasnt anything special just had to put it in the wide open net. He was clearly Canadas only good dman.

None of the D were good except Dobson. Bahl isnt good enough right now for this level, Addison made a good pass on the PP for Dobsons goal but that was the only positive play I saw really.

No one else really stood out, Foudy was ok I guess but that was all that stuck out to me. Glass was dangerous early but slowed as the game went on

As I said before...bringing a PP specialist makes no sense with Smith here. He is miles better 5 on 5 than any of the point producers.
